Here's What Went Down With GLACÉ Cryotherapy After Shark Tank

In recent years, cryotherapy has become a popular way for not just athletes, but anyone who suffers from aches and pains, to find a solution for their overall well-being. Realizing that this was a sign of a great business opportunity, siblings Skyler Scarlett and Brittney Scarlett-Torres decided to give up their jobs and invest in what seemed to them a growing industry.

"My husband first told my brother about Whole Body Cryotherapy in 2011 when he had a friend who had tried it in Texas," Scarlett-Torres told Bizcatalyst. "What [my brother] found was professional athletes and Olympic medalists who were swearing by this therapy." It was this fact that intrigued the siblings enough to do further research in the industry, before deciding that it was something they were interested in doing full time. With both siblings living in Carmel, California, it made sense to start their business in their hometown. GLACÉ Cryotherapy opened doors in 2014.

But like many new business owners, Scarlett and Scarlett-Torres threw themselves into "Shark Tank" with the hopes of acquiring financial backing for their company. Appearing in Episode 20, Season 7, the two hoped to score big with the sharks — or at least get enough money to open a second location in San Francisco. It wasn't the only time the sharks would be presented with a cryotherapy-based business. In Season 13, Episode 7, Love & Pebble pitched their cryotherapy facials — but none of the sharks were interested enough to bite.

What happened to GLACÉ Cryotherapy on Shark Tank

Skyler Scarlett and Brittney Scarlett-Torres rolled into "Shark Tank" ready to impress with their cryotherapy machine. As they talked about the benefits of hot and cold therapy, which are both mental and physical, a woman got into the tank to, presumably, prove it was safe. After she got out, Robert Herjavec gave it a try and stood inside for the maximum amount of three minutes. Although Herjavec admitted it was really cold, he did say that he felt great afterward.

When asked for details on profits so far, Scarlett said they'd done $140k in sales and $115k in gross profit. It was at this point that the siblings needed to defend their business and explain what made theirs different from other cryotherapy companies. Although Kevin O'Leary repeatedly told the siblings that they had nothing unique to offer, the two pressed on, disagreeing with him. You could tell the siblings were stressed out, as O'Leary dropped out, followed by Mark Cuban, and Herjavec, despite his enjoying the service. Lori Greiner, too, passed on investing.

As it started to look like there may be no takers, Barbara Corcoran said she could turn GLACÉ Cryotherapy into a million-dollar business in sales within the first year of her being involved. Although the siblings were initially seeking $100k for 15% stake, in the end, the two struck a deal with Corcoran, who offered $100k for 30%.

Cyrotherapy saw some growth from Shark Tank exposure

Skyler Scarlett and Brittney Scarlett-Torres left "Shark Tank" happy campers, with Skyler remarking that the experience was comparable to the American dream. However, the two could only bask in the glory of gaining an investor for so long, because it was time to get to work and make their franchise a reality.

"Barbara and her team were extremely helpful in guiding us to become an official franchise as it was something we wanted to do we just weren't sure how to start as we were previously advised by attorneys that we were too early," Scarlett-Torres explained to Bizcatalyst, adding that Corcoran made sure they only worked with people who had their best interest in mind. "We also saw a great increase in franchise requests from going on the show which has been exciting as we hope to have a GLACÉ in every major city."

According to CryoBuilt, the siblings opened another location in Mountain View, California in 2018, where they made over $400k in yearly revenue. As for a location in San Francisco, that doesn't appear to have happened, but their X page lists locations in Oregon and Tennessee, as well as their California spots.

GLACÉ Cryotherapy is no longer in business

Although Shark Tank Recap reports that all four of the GLACÉ Cryotherapy locations closed in 2017 and their machines were no longer available, social media provides another story. By the looks of it, the locations may no longer exist, but Skyler Scarlett seems to have been involved in the business up until the summer of 2020. It's probably safe to assume, based on the date and the nature of the industry, that Covid took its toll on the business and they had no choice but to close down the face-to-face sessions.

According to Skyler's Instagram, which has been updated in the last week, he's a "Cryo Pioneer," but he's moved in a completely new direction: AI-Powered Video Game Education. As for his sister, Brittney, her Instagram page is private and it looks as though she's moved on entirely. However, the two haven't forgotten about their "Shark Tank" past, having gone to the reunion in July 2023.

What's next?

With nothing online about any new business ventures by Brittney Scarlett-Torres, it's safe to assume that — besides attending the "Shark Tank" reunion in 2023 — she's moved on with her life. Skyler, on the other hand, appears to be deeply involved with the aforementioned AI-Powered Video Game Education, launching a company called GameClass. According to his Instagram pages, he's been making the rounds at U.S. universities speaking about this new business and its benefits, as well as giving talks about cryotherapy sometimes too. Skyler has also become a father to a daughter who was born in October 2022.

While it's sad that GLACÉ Cryotherapy had to close its doors because of Covid, they certainly weren't alone. As the Federal Reserve reports, by the second quarter of 2020, 1.2 million jobs had been destroyed and never came back. But unlike a lot of people who have a dream, Skyler Scarlett and Brittney Scarlett-Torres jumped into the unknown and took a risk with GLACÉ Cryotherapy. It may have fizzled out as a company, but the fact that they got as far as they did is what matters.
