Wrinkles & Lines Will Vanish With These Powerful Treatments

Wrinkles: some consider this the absolute worst part of aging. Like most of us, you may be on a journey to avoid the wrinkles and lines that naturally come with age. You may have tried to fix the makeup mistakes that are aging you or identified red light therapy as a game changer for your skin. According to the Cleveland Clinic, wrinkles and lines can develop for a number of reasons, especially when they begin at an early age. Factors such as sun damage, smoking, and environmental circumstances can all influence when and how wrinkles develop.

There are also many things we do in our day-to-day lives that can impact how our skin ages. For example, not removing your makeup nightly can lead to premature aging, wrinkles, and general skin damage. Lucky for us, however, there are a few ways to turn back time and get the skin you've always dreamed of. We've rounded up a collection of treatments that target a number of conditions that lead to wrinkles, and the results will have you never taking your skin for granted again.

Wrinkle patches for short-term effects

Wrinkle patches are one of the many short-term ways to curtail aging. According to dermatologist Dr. Mary Stevenson, "The theory is that they prevent movement of the skin and therefore the creation of wrinkles," she explained to Today. "Some also purport that they prevent moisture from leaving the skin, therefore plumping it as you retain moisture." These patches are typically left on overnight to achieve the best results, but the product can be used at any time. Wearing these patches at night is said to prevent mobility of our skin overnight to avoid those pesky sleeping wrinkles. It will also maintain moisture, hydrate the skin, and leave your face feeling plump by morning.

Hyaluronic acid and niacinamide

If your skin needs something that goes beyond the surface in order to tackle wrinkles, an acid-based serum including hyaluronic acid and/or niacinamide can do the trick. According to physician Dr. Bonnie Gasquet, "Because of its water-pulling qualities, hyaluronic acid can refine and age-rewind in those dry, sunken, or 'crepe' areas," she told Everyday Health. Using creams made with hyaluronic acid can decrease the depth of wrinkles around the lips, forehead, and eyes while effectively tightening the skin. Similarly, niacinamide includes ingredients like vitamin B3 that have been proven to repair cells. Using the proper antioxidants to repair the skin can help bring back that youthful glow.

Finding the perfect retinol

The perfect pairing for niacinamide is retinol. According to dermatologist Dr. Snehal Amin, "The skin barrier protection that comes with niacinamide can offset the dryness and irritation that comes with retinol products," she told SELF. Retinol can also help with the overproduction of melanin which often leads to discoloration, dark spots, and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. While it takes a bit of time for the skin to get used to the effects of retinol (you may experience a bit of acne, redness, and itching at first), the results will be well worth it and provide an even texture to the skin. Follow up retinol with your favorite hydrating moisturizer to prevent any excessive dryness.

Facials, chemical peels, and botox

If an over-the-counter treatment doesn't work for you, a professional skin treatment may be your next best option. Facials, chemical peels, and botox are all great options for anyone with the means to clinically address their skin concerns. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Marisa Garshick explained that in-office treatments provide ingredients that can't necessarily be found over the counter. For example, botox can "reduce wrinkles associated with certain expressions by relaxing the muscle movement that leads to the expression, thereby preventing the lines from forming or becoming deeper," she explained to Prevention.

Similarly, chemical peels and facials can improve wrinkles and lines by smoothing out the texture of the skin. Your dermatologist will likely make recommendations for which collagen-infused treatment is right for you.

Protecting your skin from wrinkles and lines

Wrinkles and lines are a natural part of aging, but there are ways to prevent them until absolutely necessary. According to Mayo Clinic, limiting the amount of time you spend in the sun (especially without sunscreen) will help keep the skin looking young as long as possible. Make sure that you're applying moisturizer and sunscreen that's high in SPF before leaving the house, especially if your skin is sensitive to most products and treatments. In addition, avoid smoking cigarettes, seek out nutritious foods, and check in with your dermatologist regularly. Above all, don't forget that protecting your skin is worth the effort!
