How To Steal Taylor Swift's Favorite Fashion Trends For Yourself

Taylor Swift dresses for her friends. In an interview with the now-shuttered ASOS Magazine in 2014, the three-time Album of The Year winner addressed the question of who her target audience was when putting together a look: men or women? Apparently, neither, or at least not so generally. "When I'm getting dressed, it's always based on what my friends will think. They are my number one priority, and the opinions of girls are more important to me at this point in my life," she said (via Glamour). Since Swift has based her public persona on the idea that she is, in fact, friends with her fans (just think of those friendship bracelets from "The Eras" tour), it's safe to say that she dresses for all of us. Even if it's a stretch, it's nice to imagine.

In sourcing some of her best looks to build on for inspiration, we've relegated the choices to her street style. While her touring outfits are amazing, they're not the most practical pieces to emulate. Wearing a diamond-encrusted body suit with coordinating thigh-high boots sounds like a blast, but not exactly a day-to-day look. So everything we've curated here comes from her off-duty looks. They're still gorgeous, and offer a ton in terms of styling inspiration.

For a night out, the moon mini dress is a must

A little black dress is a closet essential, but let's be honest, a basic cotton black fit-and-flare or sheath dress can get a little tired. That's why we were particularly intrigued by the black mini dress look Swift wore during a night out with BFF Blake Lively, which featured tons of sparkle and a unique, moon and stars pattern.

According to the Instagram account, taylorswiftstyled, the dress, called the Lucina Embellished Stretch-mesh Mini Dress In Black, is by Clio Peppiatt and retails for $2335. However, there are dupes available that are considerably cheaper. Revolve has a gorgeous version called the Stevie Sweetheart Mini Dress for $76, while Zaful sells a close match on Amazon for $18.99.

Taylor accessorizes the look with black heels featuring ankle straps, much like this Zara pair for $49.90. She carries a silver mini purse to bring out the glittery details of the moon and stars. A great dupe is the Jade Faux Leather Bag by Revolve for $55. For an even more affordable option, Forever 21 offers a cute, silver Chainmail Shoulder Bag on sale for $12. This look is a home run, because metallic accents are trending right now with little black dresses

Get the iconic Super Bowl slit jeans for less

Over the years, Swift has favored high-rise cuts in pants and skirts, and it makes sense, because she spoke about it in her "73 Questions With Vogue." When asked what her favorite fashion trend of all time was, Swift replied, "high-waisted stuff." She knows that this look works for her, and builds an outfit around these flattering pieces, which is a great styling tool to emulate.  Taylor Swift seems to do some of her best dressing when she's with Blake Lively. For the Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, the singer looked like the ultimate It Girl, combing a corset-style top with black, straight leg jeans. The Instagram account taylorswiftstyled let us know that the iconic crystal slit jeans were by AREA, and retail for $695. Luckily, we found a few comparable pairs that allow you to recreate the look for a lot less.

Coco + Oak has a pair of black Rhinestone Open Thigh Denim Jeans for $58 a pair. Meanwhile, Luxedress sells a similar pair of crystal embellished high-waisted denim for $89 on sale. Pair with a cropped black tank, black boots, and some silver jewelry and voila! You have an outfit fit for the VIP box at any event.

Serve preppy cowgirl in a sweater dress

Swift is no stranger to iconic boot looks, but one of our favorite ways the star has worn them was part of a New York street style look back in October 2023. The singer rocked a pair of tall, brown knee-high leather boots with an oversized sweater from Stella McCartney that hung like a mini dress, effortlessly tackling the pants less trend while giving ultimate prep vibes. We also love the mini dress here, because in terms of outdated trends for the year, midi dresses are out and shorter hemlines are in

The gorgeous collared sweater, Pony Club Oversized Rugby Top, retails for $850. As the Instagram account taylorswiftstyled points out, the knee-high boots are from Prada and originally retailed for $1040. However, they are no longer available.

Those looking for a budget-friendly alternative to the Stella McCartney top can replicate the look with the Faux Sweater Shirt Dress by Urban Revivo, which retails for $69.90. Ralph Lauren's Two-Tone Rib-Knit Polo Sweater Dress for $185 is another great option. Pair with your favorite knee-high, brown boots, and leave your hair down, or add a headband for the ultimate preppy look.

Do the all-white summer trend right by replicating Swift's linen look

Linen is forever a summer trend staple, but the two-piece ensembles made of the airy fabric became the ultimate quiet luxury look in 2023. Swift nailed this on-trend outfit during an outing in New York that year, sporting a crispy white, Ralph Lauren linen maxi skirt ($498) and matching eyelit pattern bustier ($289).

To recreate the look, all you need are a simple white bustier and maxi skirt. Banana Republic has a linen-cotton bustier in flax on sale for $30. Meanwhile, Loft sells a Tiered Eyelet Midi Skirt in white for $99.95. Keep the outfit simple by wearing flat tan sandals and minimalist jewelry, like a single pendant and earrings. Finish the look with a brown satchel over your shoulder, and you've got a look you can wear all summer long.

The graphic tee ensemble is great for running errands

A graphic tee is a fun way to bring a bit of personality to an otherwise bland, everyday look. Swift showed us how to do this well in October 2023, as she stepped out in biker shorts, New Balance sneakers, a baseball cap, and the pièce de resistance: a fangirl shirt of country singer queen Shania Twain. The outfit was a refreshing take on athleisure, as it showed Swift isn't afraid to show off her love for her fellow country gal.

You can recreate the look with any band tee; ideally, opt for one to two sizes larger than your normal size to create the billowy look. Swift's Daydreamer Shania Twain Any Man Of Mine Tee is by Free People and retails for $88. However, the piece is frequently sold out. Luckily, there are countless dupes online. The official Shania Twain website sells the Any Man of Mine Vintage Tee for $35. Add a pair of biker shorts (available at Old Navy for approximately $44) and you're pretty much good-to-go.

As for footwear, Swift wore the New Balance x Ganni 1906R Sneakers, according to taylorswiftstyled, and a pair retails for $349. While the shoes are very cool, your favorite pair of white sneakers will work perfectly with this look. Swift also wore the Movement Classic Ruffle Socks by Free People in Forest for $18 a pair. The frills on the socks add a nice touch.

Her skort style formula can be reused all year long

For many Millennials, dressing in your 30s creates so many questions: Which trends will make us look like we're trying too hard to live in the past? Luckily, we have Swift to help us get inspired. In July 2023, the singer embraced the resurgence of the denim skirt trend by sporting a asymmetrical skort from Free People in Light Blue Wash for $88 underneath a white ruffle-trimmed eyelet cotton blouse by Doên (retail $218). To complete the look, Swift eschewed sandals for a slightly more polished, light brown loafer with a low heel. Swift's wonderfully nostalgic denim piece — how many kids ran around in skorts back in the early aughts! — was super chic and ideal for a spring or summer afternoon.

Free People currently has the same skort available, butPac Sun also makes a similar denim skort for $54. Nordstrom Rack offers a similar shirt, the Ruffle Eyelet Top, for $39.97.  wore caramel-toned G.H. Bass Mary Jane loafers. Similar styles are available in browns and off-white tones for $195. She completed the look with a woven bag, one of our favorite summer time purse trends, as the ideal way to polish off the accessories.
