Luminescent Blonde Is The Hair Glow-Up You Need In 2024

As we shed our winter attire and step into warmer and sunnier weather, it's the perfect time to reinvent yourself. You already have the hottest nail trends for spring 2024 to choose from and, if you're keeping up with what's en vogue, you may even rock the pantsless trend this summer – but what about your hair? If you haven't decided which direction to go in yet, you might want to consider a little something called luminescent blonde.

"This luminescent blonde is created by blending multiple tones of metallic gold and platinum throughout the hair allowing one tone to define the other by creating a backdrop for the lightest tone to shine through," colorist Diana Mildice told Glamour. "When we outline our lightest blondes with a warm topaz tone, we create a natural balance."

While going blonde requires a lot of upkeep, especially if your natural color is very dark, it's still something everyone should do at least once in their life — if only to see if there's any legitimacy to the saying that blondes have more fun. Luminescent blonde is the perfect hair glow-up for 2024, so here are some cuts and styles to inspire you.

Try long hair with curtain bangs

We've seen a lot of curtain bangs in the last couple of years, and they don't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. What's great about the look is that curtain bangs can be paired with lots of haircuts and are fairly low maintenance. They also serve up a softer look than straight bangs, giving the wearer a whimsical vibe.

Reinvent yourself with a pixie cut

While short hair was hot in fall 2023 — think of Florence Pugh, who rocked it effortlessly in all stages of length — the classic pixie cut is one particular version of short that never goes out of style. Combining such a timeless cut with luminous blonde makes a statement — especially if you go directly to the look from long and dark locks. You never know, a major chop and bleach job just might be the real you, after all.

The short bob is timeless

Just as timeless as the pixie cut is the bob cut, but this one is far easier to grow out, meaning no mullet stage. If you want to go blonde this season but aren't sure what cut to get, you can't go wrong with a bob. Ever. "The bob is the ultimate reinvention hairstyle," stylist and colorist Jaye Edwards told Grazia. "When anyone needs a fresh look the bob is a go-to cut. It is blunt and bold, representing an evolution in your life. It's also great if you want to chop off your old color and start fresh, which is great for healthy hair."

A wavy lob can highlight new color

If you love the idea of luminous blonde and a cut, but don't want to go too short (sometimes baby steps are what people need in this area), then the lob is perfect for dipping your toe into short hair waters. "The lob makes all hair look thick and healthy," celebrity hairstylist Matt Fugate told InStyle. "Also, the strong lines draw attention to bone structure and help frame the face."

The shag cut plays with light

One of the few haircuts that works for every type of hair is the shag cut. "As a whole, a shag is cut by pulling everything forward with a more dramatic contrast of layering [rather] than the average long layers," hairstylist Andy Judd told Allure. Loaded up with layers and heavy on the fringe, shags also play with light, making them an ideal match for luminous blonde.
