Berry Blush Is The Fall 2024 Trend You Can Start Wearing Right Now

As the summer starts to wind down, it's time to turn a corner on the makeup colors you've been using. Not only do August and September call for transiting your skincare routine, but it's also time to shelf the warm and gold shades in exchange for cooler tones. One of those being berry blush.

"If you usually stick to your trusty neutral pinks or corals, giving berry a shot could be a delightful surprise," makeup artist Daja Hart exclusively tells Women. "Berry shades have that fun depth that can light up your complexion and add vibrancy without feeling over the top." Berry blush is also super versatile and easily at home on any skin tone. "If you're a bit hesitant, start with a lighter shade or one with a soft finish to ease into that stunning berry vibe," says Hart.

Although anyone can wear berry blush, finding the right shade is crucial if you don't want it to look like face paint. According to Hart, that means identifying both your skin tone, as well as your undertone. For example, if you have a medium skin tone and a warm undertone, then your berry shade should be raspberry or coral. But if you're light, with a neutral undertone, then you should be opting for both pink and blue berry toned rouge. Once you have matched the perfect color for your skin, you'll then consider your finish: matte or shimmer. Granted, these aren't things you can decide without some trial and error, so set aside time to experiment and see which berry is best for you.

Pair your berry blush with your lip color

Because berry has cooler undertones than some other shades, you can easily match it to your lips without it feeling overwhelming or too much. As Hart explains, a glossy berry lip will make your berry blush "pop," bringing the whole look together in a very cool, understated way. It's also a happy medium between color extremes, making it a look that works for both day and night.

Use bronzer with your berry blush

As we already know, the safest sun-kissed look you can rock is one that's done with makeup. Going bright and bold with bronzer and berry blush will give you the perfect flushed look, as if you've been at the beach all day. "Focus on hight points of your face — think temples and cheekbones — to keep the look stylish and blended," says Hart.

Complement your eyes with berry blush

Berry is such a cozy shade that it's hard not to want to use it everywhere — especially your eyes. "A gentle wash of berry or plum eyeshadow for a coordinated look? Yes, please," says Hart. "Just keep it soft for a chic vibe." If you're skilled enough to pull off winged-eyeliner, then you'll make the look extra chic.

Try highlighting your cheeks

If you have medium to darker skin, Hart suggests going bold. "Deeper berry shades provide a stunning contrast to your complexion," says Hart. Combine that with an equally bold, berry-inspired lip color and some dark eye makeup, and you're not just setting a mood, but making a statement at the same time.

Go light and airy with your berry blush

Really want your berry blush to speak volumes this summer? Then light and airy is the best way to do that. "Go for a lightweight foundation or BB cream; we want that dewy, fresh-faced vibe," says Hart. "Keep [your makeup] effortless — think natural, no heavy layers here." If you want to elevate this a bit, Hart suggests adding a "hint of bronzer for that beautiful sun-kissed glow that warms up the whole look."

Keep it soft, simple, and subtle

If you're not a big fan of mixing and matching shades, but want just a little pick-me-up look, then create a soft glow with a barely-there berry blush. While matte will deliver the most natural look, because it's the summer and getting a bit dewy is often inevitable, then adding some shimmering layers will work too.
