Emma Watson Is The Queen Of The Short Hair Looks & Here's The Proof

Not everyone can pull off short hair. But those who do, like Mia Farrow, Twiggy, Hailey Berry, and Michelle Williams, just to name a few, go down in history for it. One of the women who will always be remembered for rocking short hair, most notably her super short pixie in 2010 and 2011, is Emma Watson. Although she had various haircuts before her pixie and afterward, she still remains one of the reigning queens of the cut.

While there were vocal critics about the short 'do, because of course there were, Watson didn't care. In October 2012, she sat down with Glamour to talk about, among other things, the response she got when she chopped her locks. "Of course, men like long hair. There's no two ways about it," Watson told the magazine. "The majority of the boys around me were like, 'Why did you do that? That's such an error.' And I was like, 'Well, honestly, I don't really care what you think!' I've never felt so confident as I did with short hair — I felt really good in my own skin."

Watson may have eventually grown her hair out, but she did go short again for Prada's just-released Re-Nylon Collection campaign. Granted, we don't know if it's the real deal or if she's just wearing a wig, but either way, Watson looks fantastic, as always. If you're thinking you want to go for this ultra-low maintenance haircut, then let Emma Watson be your inspiration.

Super short pixie in 2010

During the summer of 2010, Emma Watson first debuted her super short pixie hairstyle in a now-deleted post on Facebook — and it was phenomenal. Within days, major media outlets began reporting on the dramatic cut, asking fans to weigh in with their thoughts. Though not everyone was a fan of the look, that didn't seem to bother the actor too much. She later told Entertainment Weekly that she found it "liberating."

She continued to wear the super short look for all of her public appearances that year, including the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," premiere as well as several talkshows in support of the movie. No matter if she was dressed to the nines or casual, the pixie cut always looked perfect.

Long pixie cut

By the time the summer of 2011 rolled around and Watson was doing press for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollow Pt. 2," her pixie cut had grown out quite a bit. While this is often an awkward stage — and probably the only reason why pixies can be dreadful — Watson looked fantastic with the short style. She didn't try to rush through the growing out process by opting for extensions as some do, but instead kept it slick and simple with a dramatic 2010s side part.

Longer pixie cut

In July 2012, Watson attended the MTV Movie Awards with a hair color that was far lighter than her usual brunette and a punky take on the pixie cut — which is really all you can do at this point. The wispy cut was a good alternative to the inevitable mullet that comes with trying to get your pixie layers all one length.

Cute bob in 2013

In 2013, Watson joined Seth Rogan and a host of other comedians for the movie "This is the End." When she showed up at the film's premiere, she wore a classic, pin-straight bob tucked behind her ear. To not take away from the cut, Watson kept her makeup and jewelry minimalistic for the event. After all, when you have one of the best bob hairstyles, there's no sense is messing it up with too much of everything else.

Coquettish lob

Although her hair saw greater lengths between 2013 and 2023, Watson arrived at the Prada Spring/Summer 2024 show back in September 2023 with a sophisticated lob cut. She also leaned into the coquette beauty trend by pulling everything together with a large bow at the back of her head. It was a very feminine look that bordered on cheeky and, of course, Watson nailed it.
