Here's Exactly How To Nail Sabrina Carpenter's Signature Baby Doll Blush Look

Sabrina Carpenter is having one heck of a 2024. Not only did she drop her sixth album, "Short n' Sweet," open for Taylor Swift during "The Eras" Tour, achieve two-chart topping songs, and date one of the Ireland's finest lads, Barry Keoghan; she also became a style icon. The pop star has certainly come a long way since her early days in 2014 on the Disney series, "Girl Meets World."

As much as fans and fashion lovers alike have been eating up Carpenter's 2024 nail color choices all summer, there's something else that's impossible not to notice: her makeup; particularly her baby doll blush look. Although the "Please Please Please" singer wasn't the first to rock rosy cheeks, she has certainly helped push the demure look (just think of her Skims campaign) into the limelight. Across TikTok, there are countless amateur tutorials breaking down how to recreate her retro "Espresso" music video makeup. One video has upwards 32 million views!

With that in mind, we took it upon ourselves at Women.com to consult a professional for advice on how to achieve rosy cheeks like Carpenter's. We exclusively spoke with makeup artist Jenny Smith of IMAJ Artists for all the details on how you, too, can get the perfect doll-like blush.

Choose a color that reflects your natural flush

Similar to trendy boyfriend blush look, baby doll blush is all about making your cheeks the centerpiece of your makeup. Typically, it involves using a highly pigmented, cool-toned pastel pink hue on your cheeks to copy the look of a porcelain doll. Though that sounds pretty straightforward, it's important to keep in mind that not all pink hues will look right on every skin tone.

When trying to recreate baby doll blush, Smith says finding the right shade is key, as you want it to look as natural as possible. Carpenter's makeup artist, Carolina Gonzalez has said she actually uses two different shades of Armani Beauty Luminious Silk Cheek Tint on the singer to achieve the glowy look. On Carpenter's lightly tanned skin tone, the combination pops, yet it still looks like a natural flush. But, based on your own skin tone and undertone, you may want something else. Though many people can get away with a true pastel pink, those with warmer, tan, or deeper skin tones may want to consider a berry shade. A crimson red blush, meanwhile, is a great option for olive tones. "These shades create a fresh, brightening effect which makes us look awake and refreshed," says Smith.

Apply to the apples of your cheeks only

Once you've decided on color, then it comes down to application. While some blush trends allow you to be rather willy-nilly in placement, if you want to look more like Sabrina Carpenter and less like the star clown of a traveling carnival, focus your application on the apples of your cheeks. According to Smith, smiling while applying your blush is the "mistake-proof" way to find them.

"For powder blush, apply on the apples of the cheeks with a blush brush in a circular motion and continue making circles up the cheekbone to the temples to diffuse the effect," Smith tells us. "For a more sophisticated version with a dreamy, vintage vibe, apply blush across the contour of the eyes and under the lower lashes." They explain that this creates a moodier energy, one that's less about being cutesy and more sexy and sultry. If you make mistake or get a little too heavy with the product, "simply apply powder lightly over the blush to further diffuse," says Smith. "Blend cream or gel blush over fingertips and apply to the cheeks in a tapping motion to warm it into the skin." Finally, to make the color last all day, Smith recommends applying a loose or pressed powder over the top of the blush. They said this will " keep the look fresh and pretty while preventing blush from oxidizing in humid weather."
