5 Winona Ryder Outfits That Prove She's Still The Reigning Queen Of Grunge Style

Decades into her career, Winona Ryder is killing the fit check. Since the summer of 2024 began, the queen of grunge has treated fans to a line up of chunky creepers, black suits, and floor length dusters. The retinue of edgy outfits is in large part thanks to her "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" press tour, as well as her ongoing role as Joyce Byers in "Stranger Things." So our favorite leading lady has been in the spotlight quite a bit recently, and dressing down in a big way. 

Ryder's particular grunge style, with its roots in '90s fashion, is worth paying attention to. She nails the key elements, like an androgynous silhouette, thanks to loose, billowy garments. Dark and drab tones guide her style, keeping it edgy and cool. It's an all-season look, particularly for Ryder, as she proves that one can step out in grunge even in the summer. Ryder's street style is all about showcasing the glamour in thick eyeliner, graphic tees, and black maxi skirts. She reigned supreme in the '90s, and she reigns supreme now. No question about it. 

At the London premiere of "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" in August 2024, Winona Ryder arrived in an all-black Prada ensemble. Her dress was structured and minimalist, with surprise trim at the hem of the gown made of oversized paillettes. Ryder completed the look with Prada heels and a handbag by the same brand. What brought the look together was her contemporary, spiky hair and liberal use of black eyeliner. 

On August 30, 2024, while doing a photo call for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," Winona Ryder posed in a graveyard wearing a sophisticated version of a grunge suit. Ryder paired an dark grey, oversized blazer with a midi-length skirt, completing the look with lace-up combat boots. The somber, plaid tones and boxy blazer played on the eclectic grandpa trend that's been inspiring looks; however, the punk boots and signature dark eye makeup gave the look a grunge finish. 

Winona Ryder arrived at the 2024 Venice Film Festival with one of the most perfectly grunge red carpet looks of all time. With a maxi skirt made of black tulle, Ryder balanced off the top half of her Chanel look with a fitted tuxedo jacket, vest and a bow. While the skirt served echoes of the nutcracker aesthetic, the winterized version of balletcore, Ryder kept things from getting too precious and pretty by rocking an edgy bun and stark bangs. Her makeup artist, Francelle Daly, told Vogue that for makeup "the look was punk rock queen." Nailed it.

During a visit to New York City in August 2024, Winona Ryder made a case for all-black, even in the summer. The icon stepped out wearing an ankle-length black coat with white buttons, and thick-soled black shoes. Keeping things tonal, she sported a long, black shoulder bag, and brightened things up with burgundy-rimmed sunglasses. Ryder's hair look has been all about the bangs and bun combo, which is working well with the arc of her grunge aesthetic. Her hair energy is shaggy and spunky at once. 

In 2022, for the season four, part one premiere of "Stranger Things," Winona Ryder wore a men's three-piece suit in all black. The outfit consisted of an oversized blazer (a hallmark of '90s fashion), roomy pants, and a vest over a white, button-up shirt. She accessorized the outfit with a pin of her character, Joyce Byers. While she still sported bangs, Ryder shook things up with a lighter hair color, wearing it in loose, effortless waves that graced her shoulders.
