Hailey Bieber's Flushed Cheeks & Other Fall 2024 Makeup Trends To Have On Your Radar
As we shift into the chillier time of the year, it's time to switch out the light color palettes in makeup for ones that are bold and sultry. After all, autumn demands not just moody coloring, but overall vibes. For fall 2024, though, there's a lot to choose from when it comes to new beauty trends. We've already heard the whispers about berry blush being all the rage in the coming months and found our fall manicure inspo for short nails, but that's just the beginning. One look that's been making waves and is sure to last all season is Hailey Bieber's flushed cheeks. "[Flushed cheeks] evoke energy in the skin and really makes you feel alive and look awake," New York-based makeup artist Romy Soleimani tells Allure. "I also think the more we avoid the sun, the more people are using blush to bring some color into their skin."
Because flushed cheeks and cranberry lips are the just the tip of the makeup iceberg for fall 2024 makeup trends, Women exclusively spoke to celebrity makeup artist Kasha Lassien of A-Frame agency about what else we can expect to see this season. It's going to be a really fun fall, to say the least.
Try lived-in eyeliner for a dramatic look
If you've never been able to successfully master the winged liner look, then you're luck, because lived-in eyeliner (also known as a bit messy, but in a good way), is here. "As the temperature drops there is more of a moody energy ushered in and we see it play out in our creative expression, especially in our beauty routines," Kasha Lassien tells Women. "That effortless night-before, sort of sultry yet lived-in liner is the perfect moody addition for the season and I think it will be making its return for this fall." As Lassien points out, this look popped up at the Tom Ford Fall/Winter 2024 runway show, and that Ford knows a thing or two about upcoming trends.
Go bold with your lip color
Although some people do a bold lip all year, à la Taylor Swift, once fall rolls around, it's all-but-required. Lighter shades are great, but they belong during easy weather seasons with equally light energy like spring and summer. "I think we will see a rise in bold lips in deeper reds like cranberries and wine as well as brighter reds and browns this fall," says Kasha Lassien "Bold lips, but paired with softer edges to define the lips and add a pop to the face without being overpowering — we will be playing up our lips a bit more." If it doesn't look like you've been kissing a bottle of red vino, then you've gone too light.
Embrace bronzing — if you haven't already
Bronzing has been around for quite a while now and, according to Kasha Lassien, it's definitely not going anywhere. "[Warm-toned, bronzy] blush helps to add a bit of life back into the complexion and it has been all the rave over the last few months," says Lassien, adding that it's been seen in multiple viral TikTok trends like the "cold girl" aesthetic and the ever-popular "boyfriend blush" look. "We've also seen these trends push demand for more blush shade ranges and finishes, and all of our favorite cosmetic companies have answered the call so by the looks of it, it is here to stay," says Lassien. In other words, load up on warm-toned blush the next time Sephora has a sale.
Keep things cool with muted shadows
In stark contrast to the bold lip that will be everywhere this fall are the cool and muted eye shadows that will be complementing it. This time, expect to see it done in a very '90s/2000s way, because if Y2K fashion trends tell us anything, it's that the past is back. "When I look out into the world whether it's how we wear our makeup, our hair or fashion, you see proof that '90s nostalgia is still present," says Kasha Lassien. "These more cool and muted shadow colors like grays, mauves, and cool toned brown have definitely been making their way back, especially on the runways." So, get ready to experiment with what muted tones go best with your complexion.
Opt for clean and dewy skin
If you thought the clean girl aesthetic was over, think again. Even though we've seen the look all over TikTok for years now, earlier this year it became clear that going au natural would remain one of the major makeup trends of 2024. "Over the past few years we have been seeing less full coverage makeup and more emphasis on clean, dewy, beautiful skin as a mainstream aesthetic for beauty," says Kasha Lassien. "I foresee this trend continuing as we go into these traditionally drier months and we consciously reach for more hydration and paired back, clean skin." The easiest way to get this type of ultra-luminous skin is Glossier Futuredew. It's literally a one-and-done product.
