Anne Hathaway Outfits That Fell Totally Flat

Anne Hathaway normally nails her red carpet looks. She steps out in daring, conceptual pieces or goes fully glamorous, and whatever the direction, it's almost always a success. However, there have been a few instances where things just didn't work out. The overall ensemble wasn't quite right, the cut was unflattering, or the tone was inappropriate for the occasion. It happens to everyone. The ultimate WAG, Brittany Mahomes, has worn several outfits that just didn't work, and even poised Kelly Ripa has missed the sartorial mark more than once

There's something ironic about talking about Hathaway's failed outfits, though, because a running theme in her career has been playing characters who get makeovers. When she played Mia Thermopolis in the "The Princess Diaries," a huge part of the storyline was Mia's glow up. Then when she played Andrea Sachs in "The Devil Wears Prada," the same thing happened, her makeover helping her climb the ladder at a fashion magazine. We associate Hathaway with style transformations now, thanks to these timeless movies. And while she's often spotted looking equally fabulous on the red carpet, there have been several outfits that definitely didn't complete the transformation.

Too much animal print and not enough meow

At the 2019 Golden Globes, Anne Hathaway wore a gown that featured several different leopard prints. One of the prints was metallic, as if things weren't exciting enough already. To make the dress even busier, there was a high slit. These contrasting prints were just a little too loud for us, and the neckline was also confusing. The shoulder straps appeared to be sliding off of Hathaway's torso, rather than embracing a firmly sleeveless or off-the-should look. Not our favorite.

Anne Hathaway's Oscar gown was awkward

In 2013, Anne Hathaway wore a pink Prada gown to the Oscars. While it sounds great in theory, the reality was that the gown was wrong on so many levels. The darts along the bust were awkwardly placed, and on top of that, the satin fabric was creased, making the gown look lined and wrinkled in areas. Plus, the necklace she wore felt busy on such a high neckline. It just didn't dazzle us.

Anne Hathaway's dress at the Fashion Awards was a fashion fail

Anne Hathaway opted for an archival Valentino gown at the 2023 Fashion Awards, and unfortunately, we have more questions than answers. The dress was a nondescript butter yellow tone that didn't flatter her skin tone, the neckline sloped down in a way that ended up flattening her bust. It almost looked like the dress was too heavy for itself. Also, why are we suddenly hungry for spaghetti? What is happening here?

Anne Hathaway's bubble skirt was a no-go

For Versace's Fall/Winter 2023 show, Anne Hathaway arrived in an all-black ensemble. The glossy black bubble skirt was interesting, but didn't create the most sophisticated silhouette. That plus her shin-high black boots — which made her legs look shorter — made for an unflattering, squat finish. The sunglasses were cool, though.

Anne Hathaway's bubblegum pink look was too wacky

For the 2022 Valentino fashion show in Rome, Anne Hathaway went for a Barbie-pink ensemble. The final effect was a little too cartoonish. While we love micro skirts, the cut of her skirt was so short and voluminous that it looked like she forgot to wear pants. The sky-high platform heels were certainly notable, but in a way that made us nervous that she might fall. It was an exciting look, but the matchiness of the 'fit made it look too much like a costume and less like a fashion-forward risk.
