Taylor Swift Outfits That Totally Missed The Mark In 2024

Eek! Taylor Swift has not impressed us with all of her outfit choices in 2024. What's surprising is that she doesn't usually get a look wrong. Swift is a trendsetter, a style icon, and a muse for fashion lovers everywhere. In 2024 alone, she's rocked countless outfits that were so on-trend that they've sparked their own trends. People follow her new looks fastidiously, and whatever she wears gets dissected all over the internet. There's no doubt that the Taylor effect is alive and well; when she wears something, everyone else wants it too. And even more adorable, she's morphed her style since falling in love with Travis Kelce. We love seeing a romantic influence on clothing.

Swift is all about taking risks, and occasionally, they flop. Some of her looks are outdated, while others just don't flatter her. We've noticed in 2024 that Swift is doing things differently. Her fits are more daring; she's wearing conceptual shapes. She's stepping out in totally new fabrics and prints. She's loving Vivienne Westwood, a fashion designer famous for pushing the envelope. We love seeing Swift's evolution and support it completely even with the flops. So without any jabs, we're taking a look at her 2024 ensembles that just didn't do it. But we applaud the spirit!

Taylor steps out in the Meatpacking District in a nightmare

Taylor Swift strolled New York City's Meatpacking District on November 8, 2024, in what we'll just call a notable outfit. She was joining Zoë Kravitz for dinner at Chez Margaux, and Swift arrived in a dress by Vivienne Westwood. The off-the-shoulder garb featured blasts of yellow along the corset top, while the voluminous skirt spilled over in blue stripes. Of late, Swift has been all about bustiers and corsets, which is great and looks stellar on her. However, that wasn't the case with this dress. The cut and fit of it was awkward on Swift, and the corset sat too far away from her chest. The print was hideous, and Swift's hairstyle wasn't right for such a voluminous dress. Had she worn her hair down in full volume, it might have balanced out the bell shape of this garb.

Fans on Instagram were blunt. "Not only is the dress hideous, but it's so unflattering," a fan wrote on the Instagram account @taylorswiftstyled. "This is a hard no for me. The top looks blood soaked," another added. "I don't mind the colors, but I don't like the darting or the rumpled look of the corset. With the varying patterns, it's way too busy and distracting. The dress is definitely wearing 'her,'" another mentioned. It's safe to say that this was not a favorite.

Her MTV Music Video Awards look was too wacky

At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift arrived wearing an ensemble from Dior, made up of a tartan skirt, corset, and matching choker, with black velvet shorts, thigh-high boots, and criss-cross gloves. Curiously enough, the outfit was from Dior's resort collection, making many wonder what role this plaid monstrosity would play on a holiday or cruise. While we love Swift in plaid, and laud her interest in dressing more edgy, this outfit wasn't it. The busy gloves and choker didn't give the outfit the polish of high-end glamour. The open skirt and shorts were too busy, and the thigh-high boots just added one more element to an already chaotic red carpet-ensemble.

People were not in love with this getup. "Even if it's Dior I don't like it, it looks cheap. Taylor deserves better," someone wrote on Instagram. Another just wasn't feeling it for Swift. "Unpopular opinion: not her best outfit," they commented. Another thought the mustard-tone plaid was ugly. "She's cosplaying as the couch my grandma had in 1974," they saidSwift's hair and makeup, however, were on point.

Taylor's plaid fit for the Kansas City Chiefs game was a no-go

It was a big no thank you from fans when Taylor Swift stepped out in this Vivienne Westwood two-piece. Swift played the part of the ultimate WAG when she cheered on Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs on October 7, 2024, when they played the New Orleans Saints. Swift wore a burgundy plaid mini skirt and corset set, along with the very chunky Vivienne Westwood Grace Boots. We were not in love. The cut of the corset completely flattened Swift's chest and bulged in folds around her middle. The outfit looked sloppy and improperly fitted for Swift, and the thick boots added to the chaos.

"My least favorite fit of them all," a fan wrote on the Instagram account @taylorswiftstyled. "Not my favorite look. I think I might like it better if the corset was more fitted and didn't have the "slouchy" top. Or maybe either different shoes ... it feels too heavy on the bottom," another added. "Yeah not a fan of any part of this outfit," someone else noted. It had too much draping and felt off proportionally — we really wanted to see more fitted styling.

Taylor Swift's Grammy's outfit was too busy

For the Grammys, hosted on February 4, 2024, Taylor Swift arrived in a white gown with black opera gloves. It was a dramatic and innovative departure from other red-carpet looks we've seen her in. The white gown was by Schiaparelli, and featured a very high thigh slit. Swift layered with numerous necklaces, and wore her hair to the side. While the black and white palette was simple, we didn't love this look on Swift. The numerous necklaces made the accessories appear cheap and tangled, and the styling choices around her hair were wrong for the look; The low, side 'do with a messy braid woven in was too chaotic. We're already dealing with layers and folds on the gown, but the added waves in her hair created too much texture for the outfit as a whole. We wish that she had worn her hair up or in a more simple style.

People weren't wowed by this outfit. "Not the serve she thought it was going to be, methinks. Love the jewelry, but not much else," one person quipped on Instagram. Another emphasized how there was simply too much going on here. "I would not have thought that was Schiaparelli, the construction looks a touch unintentionally messy for them," they wrote. "Dress is lovely — but accessories and hair are rough," someone else wrote, highlighting what we were all thinking.

Taylor Swift's outfit on a night out with Blake Lively wasn't our favorite

We're not digging Taylor Swift's dress and boots combo that she chose for a night out in Brooklyn with pal, Blake Lively. While strolling through New York City in January 2024, Swift chose the Sweet Jane Olive Crushed Mini Dress by Little Lies and over-the-knee brown boots by Jimmy Choo and Jean Paul Gaultier which featured Greek mythology-styled detailing, as well as snake designs. It wasn't our favorite look on her in terms of street style. Swift usually kills it when it comes to stepping out in New York, but the thick, wide boots so close to the hem of her A-line mini dress made her look disproportionate and didn't elongate her gorgeous silhouette. It just wasn't a flattering combo on Swift, and the color choices were drab.

People online also felt it wasn't a home run. "Can she fire her stylist oh my god," one person commented on Instagram. "I love these separately, but it is SO BAD together," another noted. "Wow I don't think I've ever hated one of her outfits this much lmao," a third person wrote. The boots and the dress did not make for a winning combo.
