The Best Dressed Stars Of 2024, Ranked
2024 was filled with many iconic pop culture moments and celebrity events, ranging from the proliferation of Brat Summer to the conclusion of Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras tour. While we were wowed with star-studded annuals like the Academy Awards and the Met Gala, the year also brought the celebrity-attended 2024 Olympic Games and movie premieres for "Dune: Part Two," "Challengers," and "Wicked." Through it all, there were loads of memorable fashion moments, with several stars landing on the list of the worst-dressed celebs of 2024 while others consistently turned heads with their fashion know-how.
In terms of celebrity fashion, the year was defined by the eclectic styles of the chart-dominating pop girlies, ranging from Charli XCX's revitalized version of indie sleaze to Sabrina Carpenter's fun-and-flirty burlesque style. Additionally, red carpet and star-studded events were dominated by a mixture of stylish method dressing and classic Hollywood glam. While not all of our favorite fashion-forward celebs made it into the top ten, we've hand-selected some Hollywood figures who've blown us away this year.
A$AP Rocky
While celebrity menswear often pales in comparison to the womenswear worn on red carpets, there are a couple of male celebrities who have earned a spot on the list of best-dressed stars. Rapper and style icon A$AP Rocky ranks number ten on our list, with the artist having a notable fashion year. In 2024, Rocky debuted his first-ever runway show at Paris Fashion Week and was honored as a Cultural Innovator at the annual Fashion Awards. Alongside these feats, the "Praise the Lord" rapper had some notable looks, with his spread in W Magazine featuring some standouts.
While it was hard to narrow down our favorites, we're major fans of Rocky's complete Bottega Veneta look for the 38th Annual Footwear News Achievement Awards, where his work with Puma was deemed the Collaboration of the Year. The artist looked effortlessly cool in the bomber-style leather jacket that he paired with trousers and a "Dope" belt buckle. While he might be a master of streetwear, A$AP Rocky can also rock formal looks, as seen in the layered Bottega Veneta suit he wore during a New York City outing with Rhianna in October.
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan ranks number nine on our list of best-dressed celebs, with the pop star's meteoric rise to success being a notable 2024 pop culture phenomenon on its own. The singer, who's become known for her upbeat bangers about queer love and defining experiences, has a unique fashion sense that takes direct inspiration from the art of drag. Roan's performance ensembles rank as some of her best, with her Statue of Liberty cosplay and her intricate swan look being some of our favorites, but her dramatic fashion style, curated by celebrity stylist Genesis Webb, also materializes in her red carpet looks.
An example of this is the medieval-inspired 'fit that she wore to the MTV Video Music Awards in September, with the "Good Luck, Babe!" singer pairing a gauzy Y/Project gown with an embroidered cape and an actual sword. She completed the look with a set of metal wrist cuffs, a cross necklace, and an extra-long manicure. While not as intricate, Roan's look for the premiere of "Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour" was just eye-catching. The artist donned a sheer, floor-length dress with flower appliques for the event, sporting an iteration of the theatrical makeup she's so well known for.
Angelina Jolie
Next up on our list of best-dressed stars is Angelina Jolie, a Hollywood veteran who has long been considered a fashion icon. This year saw the celebrity starring in the December-premiering biopic "Maria," with many of her best looks coming from film-related event appearances. While we were a big fan of the all-black, loose-fitting suit that the actor sported at the 68th BFI London Film Festival, our favorite Jolie looks channel old Hollywood glam in a way that proves she's the ultimate movie star.
For example, the "Maleficent" star wore a sand-colored, draped gown, custom-made by Tamara Ralph, to the world premiere of "Maria" at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in August. She styled the form-fitting gown with a fur stole and a classic red lip. Another stunning 2024 look from Jolie came from the 77th Annual Tony Awards, which she attended with her daughter Vivienne. The LA native wore a beautifully ruched velvet gown with major Statue-of-Liberty-but-make-it-chic vibes.
Colman Domingo
Colman Domingo is another male celebrity who has been consistently serving fashionable looks throughout 2024. The year saw the playwright and producer nominated and honored for his roles in films like "Rustin," "The Color Purple," and "Sing, Sing," the last of which he produced. While we're major fans of the sand-colored outfit accessorized with a crocheted beret that he wore to the Valentino Pavillon des Folies Show during Paris Fashion Week, it makes sense that most of Domingo's best ensembles came out of award show season.
One of his best looks of the year was worn to the Critics Choice Awards, with the Hollywood figure sporting a custom Valentino suit in mustard over a light-blue, V-neck shirt. He accessorized with a show-stealing, textured jacket in gold and matching Louboutin boots, crediting his stylist Wayland + Micah for the look. While he had many fashionable appearances in 2024, Domingo stunned in another colorful ensemble at the CHANEL and Charles Finch Annual Pre-Oscar Dinner, wearing a glossy green suit with a wood grain pattern over a white shirt with a deep rounded neck. He styled the pieces with simple gold jewelry for an effortlessly cool look.
Da'Vine Joy Randolph
2024 was a big year for Da'Vine Joy Randolph, both professionally and sartorially. The actor received several awards for her portrayal of Mary Lamb in the comedy-drama "The Holdovers," including an Oscar and a Golden Globe, and consistently served looks throughout the award show season. Her succession of glamorously stunning gowns landed her on the fashion map, with Randolph ranking as number six on our list of best-dressed celebs. While we loved nearly every look from the Hollywood figure, including the red trench coat look she sported at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards, there were two that stood out as favorites.
Randolph wore a black, column-shaped gown from Valdrin Sahiti to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, styling the embellished garment with matching gloves, dark red lipstick, and a wavy updo. Though it's a big contrast from the vampiric vibes of her afterparty ensemble, we also love the pastel pink dress that the "Only Murders in the Building" actor donned for the Academy Museum Gala in October. The custom Louis Vuitton gown featured an off-the-shoulder neckline with a peplum-style waist that gave way to a flowing skirt.
Ashley Park
Next on our list is Ashley Park, an actor and singer who's also had an exciting fashion year. The Hollywood figure most notably co-stars as Mindy Chen on the fashion-centered Netflix show "Emily in Paris," with the actor being a style icon on and off TV screens. In fact, 2024 saw Park co-designing a capsule collection with Weekend Max Mara, which appeared at Milan Fashion Week in September. She also has an ongoing partnership with Rent the Runway, releasing seasonal wardrobes with her own style influence. In this way, it's no surprise that the actor has had some stunning looks throughout the year.
Park's all-denim outfit featuring a corset, which she wore to her "Good Morning America" appearance in September, is a must-mention, but she's also had some stunning red carpet looks. An example of this is her look from the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, with her Germanier gown featuring black sequins, an asymmetrical chest cut-out, and black and neon green feathering down one side. Park similarly sported a unique Germanier gown when attending the Bvlgari Calla Collection Launch during Paris Fashion Week. The upcycled garment features black and pink loop fringe that falls into an asymmetrical hemline.
Jenna Ortega
Jenna Ortega takes the number four spot on our list of best-dressed celebs, with the actor and her stylist Enrique Melendez curating edgy "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice"-ensembles for much of 2024. The press tour for the classic comedy sequel saw the former Disney star styled in patterns and colors reminiscent of the movie, such as pinstripes and moody reds and blues, in addition to garments and accessories directly inspired by it. An example of the latter is the Lydia Deetz outfit that Ortega was spotted in during a New York City outing in August, with the actor wearing a plaid schoolgirl uniform, resembling the one featured in the original "Beetlejuice," paired with a handbag referencing the film's "Handbook for the Recently Deceased."
While we loved all of her streetwear and photocall looks, Ortega's red carpet ensembles took the cake this year. The "Wednesday" star wore another ode to Lydia Deetz to the Venice International Film Festival, with the Dior gown featuring a heart-shaped bodice of tulle reminiscent of the Winona Ryder character's wedding dress. For the London premiere of "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," Ortega donned another amazing, custom piece, wearing a teal and black gown from Harris Reed with a high crumb catcher neckline, structural bodice cups, and peplum-like accents on the waist.
Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande is another star that has been dominating the fashion scene with her method dressing, as the pop singer has been busy promoting the long-awaited movie musical "Wicked." With the help of her stylist Mimi Cuttrell, Grande has sported some stunning, Glinda-coded outfits throughout the year, channeling not only the good witch's pink aesthetic but the film's theatrical roots on Broadway.
One of our favorite examples of this is the beautiful Vivienne Westwood gown that Grande wore to the Australian premiere of the film. The pastel garment featured a voluminous tulle skirt with pops of ruffled fabric, a corset bodice featuring firework-like silver embellishments, and exaggerated puff sleeves. The gown, which the pop singer styled with a butterfly choker and an assortment of silver jewelry, is a clear ode to Billie Burke's portrayal of Glinda in the classic "Wizard of Oz." While 2024 meant a lot of pink for Grande, not all of her looks were so literal, with the celeb wearing another beautiful Vivienne Westwood gown to the WSJ Innovator Awards in October. The sheer, floral garment wasn't a direct ode to Glinda, but it did contain an ethereal and whimsical vibe that feels at home with her other outfits.
Cynthia Erivo
Ranking as the second best-dressed celebrity of 2024 is Cynthia Erivo, with the Broadway star debuting alongside Ariana Grande as Elphaba in the big-screen adaptation of "Wicked." Similar to her good witch co-star, the London native has been channeling her witchy counterpart during the movie's press tour, experimenting with different greens and black while sporting some of the chicest celebrity manicures of 2024.
While this means that Erivo has had many daring and unique looks throughout the year, one of our favorites is the bright green Carolina Herrera column dress that she sported at the Red Sea International Film Festival in December. The eye-catching garment had embellishments laid in a diamond pattern and a billowy, off-the-shoulder cape that trailed behind the star. Erivo also got to show off her fashion prowess when she hosted the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards in October. The actor wore several stunning outfits at the event, including a hooded velvet gown from Zac Posen and her Rodarte dress to bring the gothic drama. The high-necked gown with puffed shoulders featured a metallic floral design laid over a seemingly sheer black fabric for a bewitching effect.
Zendaya
The number one spot on our list goes to style icon Zendaya. Long-time fans of the actor will know that Zendaya has had a jaw-dropping style transformation since her Disney Channel days, working with stylist Law Roach to cement herself as a true fashion star. In this way, method dressing has long been an integral part of the "Euphoria" star's brand, with the release of "Dune: Part Two" and "Challengers" offering many opportunities to exercise her fashion muscles throughout 2024. Even outside of her press tours, the actor has an immaculate sense of fashion, with her metallic Armani Privé look at the Oscars ranking as one of our favorite 2024 looks from the star.
Still, there are two outfits from Zendaya that rank as some of the most memorable of the year. The Hollywood figure wore several stunning looks to the annual Met Gala, with the sprawling, archival corset gown from designer John Galliano for Givenchy being our favorite. She paired the garment, which was made the same year she was born, with a bouquet headpiece featuring multi-colored roses. While Zendaya is no stranger to unique fashion, her Met Gala looks are only truly rivaled by the vintage Mugler robot suit that she sported for the "Dune: Part Two" premiere in London. Paired with the black Mugler gown that she changed into during the event, it ranks as one of the most memorable fashion moments of 2024.
Methodology
To curate a list of the best-dressed stars of 2024, we identified celebrities who consistently wore fashionable looks throughout the year, as recognized by fashion outlets, fans, and the author. Red carpet ensembles were the primary focus of this ranking, but streetwear and performance outfits were somewhat considered in the initial selection process. As for ranking the top ten, subjective judgment was used in conjunction with factors like the number of fashion-forward appearances made in 2024 and audience reception.
