5 Celebs Who Have Rocked Chic Bottleneck Bangs
There's no one right way to rock a bang. From dynamic curve bangs that were everywhere in 2023 to the curtain bangs that everyone and their mother seemed to be rocking in 2024, bangs never go out of style. Instead, they evolve alongside fashion, making some bang types more popular at different times than others, but always remaining effortlessly cool.
As we roll into 2025, it's time to try a new style of bangs and it's one that some celebrities have already begun to embrace: the bottleneck bang. Unlike curtain bangs that are cut to part in the center of the forehead, bottleneck bangs are closer to a traditional bang because they're cut straight across so your forehead is mostly covered.
"The bottleneck bang is fringe that's shorter in the center and gets longer as it protrudes out, just like the shape of a bottle. It's a replica of the iconic Jane Birkin bang," hairstylist Glenn Ellis told Stylecaster, adding that these bangs can look different on different people based on face shape, hair texture, and how much of a bang your hairstylist cuts. If you're looking to try bangs for the very first time or you just want to take your current bangs up a few levels in chicness, then the bottleneck bang is for you.
Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson's take on bottleneck bangs look so effortless because she's not styling them to look severe. Instead, she allows her bangs to fall where they want, which also makes them a low-maintenance bang style. "I would use a paddle brush and hair dryer, and flat wrap making criss-cross motions," hairstylist Raven Hurtado told Byrdie regarding Johnson's bangs. "Let them fall into place or use a round brush for more volume."
Lily Collins
If you really want to commit to heavy bottleneck bangs, let Lily Collins be your inspiration. Even with an updo, you can tell her stylist pulled a lot of hair to the front to create a dramatic full bang across the brow, as the shorter layers cascade around her temples. It's a perfect way to frame a face and draw attention to striking features.
Halle Berry
When it comes to hair, Halle Berry is a hairstylist's dream. Unlike some celebrities who play it safe in their haircuts and styles, Berry has been all over the place, even rocking a very short pixie that likely inspired legions of fans to go ultra-short, too. However, when rocking a much longer 'do, she tried on bottleneck bangs for size. To no surprise, the look is stunning on her, especially with her natural wavy hair.
Jenna Ortega
If you look at Jenna Ortega's bottleneck bangs, you'll notice the midsection is shorter than some of the other bottleneck looks, allowing for a dramatic drop-off around the temples as the layers get longer. Unlike Lily Collins, Ortega's take on this bang is less severe and more wispy, making it a great version of the bang for the hot summer months — less hair to stick to your forehead once the humidity arrives.
Charlotte Gainsbourg
Because bottleneck bangs are ultimately paying homage to icon Jane Birkin and her famous tresses, we'd be remiss to not mention her daughter, actress-singer Charlotte Gainsbourg who, just like her mom, rocks a fierce bottleneck bang. Gainsbourg, whose father is legendary French singer Serge Gainsbourg, has become an icon in her own right. Something easy to attain when your lineage is part Birkin, part Gainsbourg.
