Here's What Went Down With EyeWris Reading Glasses After Shark Tank
Anyone who depends on glasses to see knows what an unfortunate experience it can be to lose them. For sculptor and furniture designer Mark Singer, it was a serial problem. He would constantly lose new pairs of reading glasses and never had them when he needed them most. In fact, sometimes he would come home from a grocery run and surprise his family with "sugarless ice cream, low-salt turkey bacon, and cheese-free mac and cheese."
As an inventor, Singer quickly realized that he might be able to solve this problem and began working with his son, Kenzo, on a revolutionary pair of reading glasses that people could count on to never vanish. That's how Eyewris, the foldable wrist-worn glasses were created. The specialty glasses could be worn on one's wrist and within a matter of seconds, transform into functional eyewear. By 2020, the duo launched a Kickstarter to raise funds to get the business off the ground. However, by July of that year, they ceased promoting to the campaign due to the pandemic. This setback didn't stop the Singers from chasing their goal to bring EyeWris to the masses.
EyeWris Reading Glasses scored a deal by touching the hearts of the sharks
The father and son duo of EyeWris, Mark and Kenzo Singer appeared on the season finale of the 14th season of "Shark Tank" to pitch their innovative reading glasses to the sharks. They came seeking $25,000 for 5% equity of their company. The sharks were impressed with the duo's clever pitch and design award-winning product, the sharks were also shocked when they found out the father of the duo was the creator of the well-known and loved Gorilla Glue.
The duo's pitch didn't just get good laughs out of the sharks, it even had one of the sharks in tears. When Daymond John asked why they need a shark, Mark shared with the sharks that he no longer felt he had it in himself "to build another company" and that his "time has passed." He came on the show hoping to leave his son, Kenzo, "in good hands." By the end of Mark's heartfelt speech, Lori Greiner was in tears as she explained how much the speech touched her and agreed that everyone is on "limited time." Despite not even reaching $10,000 in sales at the time of the recording of the show, the sharks were left feeling so touched with Mark's wishes for his son and loved the product so much that a very rare turn of events took place. The father and son duo ended up with offers from all of the sharks. After some back-and-forth countering, the duo ended up offering 20% of their company to the sharks for $125,000 and the sharks gladly accepted.
What happened to EyeWris Glasses after Shark Tank?
Unless it's officially announced on an social media account or updated on the official website, it's difficult to find out whether or not the deal went through. Similar to Luna Magic Beauty, despite much research efforts, we weren't able to find an update on whether the deal with the sharks actually closed post-show. With that said, there are some hints that a deal did take place. These hints are things like the shark often making an appearance on the company's social media accounts or the company's official website. Based on the EyeWris' social media accounts and website, it seems safe to say they never reached a closing on the deal after the show. This is nothing surprising as it happens quite often to companies on the show.
And, sometimes, the exposure is more than enough for a business. As exposure means growth and maybe even interest from outside investors. While it wasn't obvious whether or not they had other investors interested or already involved in the company, they did make it clear that they received so much interest after the show. Oh, and they even threw a viewing party when the show aired and dedicated a sale to the show by naming it the Shark Tank sale. Some time after the show aired, they posted on Instagram thanking everyone for their interest and that their "inboxes" were "overflowing" and received "overwhelming love and support."
How is EyeWris Reading Glasses doing now?
EyeWris Reading Glasses is very much still in business. At the time of the show, the founding father and son duo informed the sharks that their glasses were priced at $110 with shipping included. At the time of writing this article, the company was continuing their Shark Tank sale and was offering their glasses at a discounted price of $89. The glasses continued to be offered solely through the company's official website and there was still only one universal size available. However, Kenzo Singer, the son of the duo, did say on the show that it should fit "about 95% of the population" they were "going for." If true, 95% is a pretty solid number.
When exploring the official website, one thing that was noticeable was all of the color varieties the glasses were being offered in on their website. They had also started to advertise their new color varieties on their social media accounts like this Instagram post. Also, one of the first things mentioned on the website is all of the awards their product has won over the years, such as the Red Dot Award and Good Design Award. It's also clear the founders are very proud of the durable and innovative design they have come up with as father and son.
What customers said about EyeWris Reading Glasses
One of the major issues with a company only offering their product on their official website is that it's difficult to get an idea of how customers really feel about the product through honest, real reviews. This is the case for EyeWris Reading Glasses as per the official website, users have only had positive things to say about the product. So, we did some more digging and found that the Facebook reviews of the company told somewhat of a different story. There were all kinds of complaints with some complaining that the glasses were not meant for fuller faces. Many of the reviewers mentioned that they found issues with the glasses and had requested a refund and were simply told it was a final sale item or past the 30-day purchase period. One of the reviewers, Gary Lee Miller, also shared a valid concern that the "design has a major flaw" as "they will not stay on when you sweat." He said it's even worse having them on your wrist as "they are covered in perspiration" in a warmer environment.
Bad reviews from disappointed customers should be expected for a company. Not everyone will love a product. The major issue was that the company was not responding to any of these bad reviews and only replied to reviews that were positive. Now, while that may just be a coincidence, it's crucial for a business like EyeWris Reading Glasses to be attentive to their customers' needs and hear them out. Not only do they have their reputation on the line, but also that of Shark Tank. It also goes beyond reputation as excellent customer service is vital for a business to grow and succeed.
