The Denim Trends You'll Be Seeing Everywhere In 2025

Trends come and go, but denim is the one fabric that refuses to fade. In 2025, it's taking on new forms — making a case for both maximalism and minimalism to embrace whatever kind of glamour its wearer desires.

Both on the runways and in real life, the versatility of denim is reaffirming its endless potential. This is perhaps to be expected from the fabric that has spent centuries evolving. Originally woven as a durable workwear texture, denim traces its roots back to 17th-century France, where "serge de Nîmes" eventually became the fabric we know and love today. By the 19th century, Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis revolutionized it into the sturdy, riveted jeans that would define American workwear. But denim didn't stay confined to factories and fields for long. By the mid-20th century, it had found its way into pop culture, and was turned into a statement by stars like Marilyn Monroe, later Blondie, and eventually just about anyone with a pulse.

Now, the fashion mavens have spoken. As we step into a new year, denim is doubling down. Expect to see it worn again and again, with new attention-grabbing trends.

Wide-leg denim confirms that comfort and style aren't mutually exclusive

Wide-leg denim is officially stealing the show in 2025. Once the workhouse of 1970s wardrobes, wide-leg, loose-fitting jeans have once again returned, unseating skinny jeans as the reigning champion of casual cool. For the first time in years, Data But Make It Fashion saw skinny jeans sales plummet by 27% by the end of 2024, while baggy styles soared by 296%.

Stitch Fix Stylist Emiko Strah summed up the appeal of wide-leg denim best: "Its relaxed yet versatile shape offers comfort without sacrificing style, making it a wardrobe staple for 2025," she exclusively told Women.com. But despite its relaxed nature, the wide leg style can be styled in way that feels both thoughtful and fresh. To master the look, Strah suggested Stitch Fix's 1-2-1 Rule: anchoring the silhouette with a fitted base (a bodysuit or a sleek tank, for example), layer with a slouchy, oversized button-down, and finish with a structured shoe, like leather sneakers or lug-sole boots. This compilation will help to achieve proportional equilibrium, "to balance the relaxed silhouette and create contrast."

Ranch Revival spurs a denim comeback with cowboy roots

Trust Beyoncé to put denim back in the saddle whilst also marking a cultural reset for the fabric. When she released her catalytic country-inspired "Cowboy Carter" album in 2024, featuring the ode to denim, "Levii's Jeans," it was only a matter of time before the modern wardrobe latched onto the Ranch Revival. Strah confirmed the trend was taking centre stage in 2025, adding that shows like "Yellowstone have been pivotal in fueling the demand for rugged denim looks."

This trend leans into the utilitarian, lived-in appeal of classic Western denim, whilst also infusing it with a modern, metropolitan edge. Strah earmarked barrel-leg jeans and barn jacket as staples of the look. Supporting this revival, Data But Make It Fashion reported that bootcut jeans experienced a 114% increase in sales by the end of 2024, and a 10% rise in popularity for cowboy hats and boots, compared to 2023. To this, we say giddy up.

Bermuda shorts are no longer just a dad staple

Bermuda shorts aren't just for dads. In fact, they're making another serious comeback in 2025. Overshadowing shorter, skin-tight styles, these knee–grazing tailored shorts have been enthusiastically received by some of the most fashion-forward celebs — not least Emrata, Suki Waterhouse, and the Hadid sisters.

Emiko Strah sees this as part of a broader shift towards looser, more casual styles overall, "with a growing appreciation for relaxed, 'borrowed from the boys' silhouettes." This resurgence taps into the ironically fashionable charm of "dadcore," a trend born from the unintentional coolness of the man who traded style for practicality somewhere between mowing the lawn and grilling burgers. Think New Balance 990s, unapologetically visible socks, and sporty sunglasses.

Building on this blend, these jorts are definitely a more wearable alternative for those who want to rock shorts in the warmer months, but feel restricted by smaller, tighter options. "With their relaxed, longer fit, these shorts offer comfort and ease, making them ideal for effortlessly cool, off-duty style," Strah told Women. For a '90s-infused, dressed-down look, pair them with sneakers and a boxy vintage tee. If you're dressing them up, opt for sleek mules, a statement bag, and an oversized blazer for a modern twist on summer office wear.

Embellished denim is getting the luxe treatment

Denim is getting its glow-up in 2025, transforming from functional to fabulous with fantastic embellishments. It's all about the things that shimmer: denim drenched in crystals and accented with metallics. Troye Sivan made a strong case for this trend on the SWEAT tour, sporting custom McQueen indigo stonewash denim jeans adorned with chainmail and crystal-embroidered pockets — and we certainly felt the rush.

Meanwhile, on the runway, designers have also been embracing all sorts of denim embellishments for their 2025 collections. Simone Rocha's offerings included a dazzling, crystal-embellished jean jacket with a sleek, tailored fit. Elsewhere, Stella McCartney's stunning slouchy denim look was completely encrusted with iridescent crystals, whilst gold-toned buttons fabulously juxtaposed the icy sparkle. The results were simply inspiring.

Double denim is so back

Over the years, the Canadian Tuxedo has walked a long road from fashion exile to front-row favorite. Once considered a fashion faux pas, delightful double denim duds are now a deliberate style win. This year, it's firmly definitive. Just ask  Chanel and Acne Studios — all of whom sent head-to-toe denim down their Spring/Summer 2025 runways.

If you're still hesitant to break this fashion rule, take a leaf from the book of fashion heavyweight Gigi Hadid, who once made denim the official theme for her birthday party. Said to be a tongue-in-cheek tribute to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's infamous 2001 AMA denim spectacle, Hadid's birthday bash became a full-blown denim-on-denim dreamscape. The birthday girl herself donned double denim in jeans and a jacket, while Bella scored a hat-trick, stacking a denim trendy corset and a loosely fitting shirt on top of some straight jeans.
