The Worst-Dressed Attendees At The 2025 Oscars

The 2025 Oscars, hosted by Conan O'Brien, took place in Los Angeles on March 2, 2025. The night revolved around films with recurring nominations, like "Wicked," "Emilia Pérez," "Anora," and "Conclave," with "Anora" dominating the night. Typical of award ceremonies, it was a night of celebration and levity, with stars stepping out in their best looks. For many, these looks were divine, but for others, the red carpet results were questionable. In terms of those who ranked amongst the worst dressed at the 2025 Oscars, we have to give honorable mention to Adam Sandler, who was part of a bit during the opening, with O'Brien teasing him for his routinely horrible outfits. As part of the joke, Sandler sat in the audience wearing basketball shorts and a blue hoodie, playing on the fact that he dresses like a comfortable slob most of the time. He certainly seemed to have a sense of humor about it.

For others, though, the looks were either odd or the stars and stylists made a genuine effort, but the outfit just didn't work. Certain elements didn't come together, or the tailoring was unflattering, or a little bit of both. Several of our worst dressed stars from 2024 showed us they still have work to do when finding a look that works. Nonetheless, we always laud anyone willing to take a risk and step out of their comfort zone, so our assessment is done in love and peace. We just know these stars can do better, but we still respect the bravery to try something different.

Ariana Grande's lampshade was a miss

Ariana Grande walked the 2025 Oscars red carpet in a pink gown, paying tribute to "Wicked," and the dress was certainly playful. The corseted Schiaparelli gown jutted out at the waist in curving waves, and finished with a tulle skirt. She wore a De Beers diamond necklace and pulled her hair back in a clean-girl bun, clearly establishing herself as one of the celebs who favors a slicked-back bun. However, the look was too severe, and we cannot figure out how she fit into her seat with that geometric waist. In one clip from the night, she was literally able to place her phone on her dress and it stayed up. That's not the first thing we look for when imagining the ideal red carpet dress.

Whoopi Goldberg's space dress was a no

Whoopi Goldberg wore a blue, sci-fi space dress by Christian Siriano to the 2025 Oscars. The liquid-looking dress was certainly a bold choice, but it was the cut of the dress that didn't do it. The full skirt, being such an ample A-line, needed a more fitted bust, but the dress jutted out again at the shoulders in an exaggerated boat neck top, engulfing Goldberg in high-voltage fabric. It was too much of a bad thing, and the final effect was overwhelming. It reminded us of the time Zendaya wore that unfortunate Cinderella dress to the 2019 Met Gala. In both cases, it was too much volume in a bizarre shade of blue.

Zoe Saldaña's Oscars dress was a nightmare

Zoe Saldaña won an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in "Emilia Pérez," and while she came out of the night victorious, her dress was a loser. The gown was created by Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello, and comprised three tiers of burgundy draping bunched together, completed by a sheer-effect top. While we're obsessed with the sheer clothing trend, from pops of skin to fearless transparency, this dress was just a flop. It flattened Saldaña in some places, and added volume in other places, and this made it seem lopsided. People on X were enraged. "i can't believe zoe saldana is gonna accept the oscar in one of the ugliest dresses ive ever seen," someone tweeted. "I don't mind Zoe Saldana winning her career Oscar, but why did she have to win in that dress," another lamented. "I love, love, love Zoë Saldaña. I hate, hate, hate this dress," a third chimed in. The horror.

Emma Stone's Oscar dress was a master class in boring

Emma Stone wore a beaded Louis Vuitton gown to the 2025 Oscars, and styled her hair to reference old Hollywood and the wavy bob of 1920s flapper girls. While the hydro bob has been the short hair trend rocking the streets of late, Stone's look as a whole did not land. The gown was completely uninteresting. The neckline was a snooze, the length was ever so slightly too long. Even the beading and shimmer effect of the dress managed to make us yawn. What's baffling is that Stone wore a Louis Vuitton gown last year, when she won best actress for "Poor Things." It was a pale mint green peplum dress that tore when she accepted her award. Apart from the malfunction, the dress was drab, so why she went back to the same designers in 2025 is puzzling.

We give the thumbs down to Mikey Madison's pink dress

Mikey Madison won best actress for her role in "Anora" at the 2025 Oscars, and while we love to see a breakout star win, her pink and black Dior gown went home without an award. The dress featured a black top with a pink bow tied at the waist with a pink train. Like so many other stars of the night, Madison styled the look with an uninspired bun — can we not with the tight little buns for one evening? — that took away any additional lustre from an already-boring gown. The dress didn't fit her properly and bunched at her waist. The good people of X had a lot to say about it. "Whoever put Mikey Madison in that dress should be in jail," someone tweeted. Someone else tried to be positive. "Very Audrey Hepburn but a bit too long in the torso for her. It should lay flat across her abdomen despite the draping. Hemmed loaner gown," they wrote. This was not her best look.

Monica Barbaro's pink gown did nothing for her

Monica Barbaro played Joan Baez in the Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown." While her performance was stunning, her pink Dior dress didn't add to the celebration that she deserved. The dress featured an ample ballgown shape contrasted by a beige, textured bralette top. While this all sounds fine on paper, the red carpet effect was a disappointment. The skirt was too long and wrinkled, white the bralette top didn't appear to fit her well and sagged on the sides. Plus, her plain bun gave the whole look an underwhelming effect. Did a glamorous updo ever hurt anyone? How about a blowout? What is with this wave of tight buns on red carpets? People on X noted that Barbaro had looked a lot better on other red carpets recently. "Monica Barbaro deserved a better [Oscar] look than this Dior gown, especially after her impressive press tour for 'A Complete Unknown,'" someone tweeted on X. The finished product was uninspired.
