All Of JLo's Wedding Dresses, Ranked
It's only appropriate that rom-com queen Jennifer Lopez has worn plenty of dramatic, romantic wedding dresses. The star of "The Wedding Planner" and "Maid in Manhattan" has been married four times and worn several different wedding looks—including five different looks over two ceremonies for her 2022 marriage to Ben Affleck.
All of J.Lo's marriage experiences have granted her some real perspective on love and relationships. And it make sense. After walking down the aisle several times, you have to expect she knows a lot about gowns, grooms, and red flags. And we wouldn't expect less from J.Lo, who has rocked six stunning engagement rings. Of course, having had multiple weddings, this star knows how to choose a wedding look, too. From the flirty, nostalgic frock she wore to meet Affleck at a Las Vegas chapel in 2022 to the lace column dress she wore to say "I Do" to Ojani Noa in 1997, Lopez has a lack for looking stunningly bridal. These are her best marriage looks — ranked by sheer romantic drama.
The simple white Jersey Girl dress
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have been star-crossed lovers for more than a decade. The Leo couple got engaged in the early 2000s but split in 2004. So it looked like fate in 2021 when they rekindled their romance after nearly 20 years. They tied the knot with a private ceremony in Las Vegas, just a year after making their resurrected love story official on Instagram.
For a couple that has always been all about drama, the small ceremony was surprisingly down-to-earth. Lopez wore a simple white dress from Alexander McQueen. The dress has a vintage 1960s silhouette, and Lopez later revealed it was a dress with a special nostalgic significance for the couple: It was the same dress she wore on the poster for the 2004 film "Jersey Girl," which she starred in with Affleck. "I've had this dress for so many years, and I've just been saving it, saving it, saving it, and now I'm wearing it on my wedding day," she shared in her newsletter (via Harpers Bazaar).
But while the dress has a thrilling backstory and gets major points for sentimental value, it's underwhelming on its own. The white brocade, A-line dress is simple and classic. But the low-key style is just not very Lopez. The star is typically known for glamorous, sultry fashions that showcase her incredible curves — and this ain't it.
The keyhole cut-out Ralph Lauren gown
Though Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez said "I do" in a private Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, they tied the knot again with a second, larger ceremony with friends and family near Savannah, Georgia. For the sumptuous, all-white ceremony, Ralph Lauren designed three separate bridal looks for the "Monster-In-Law" star.
While all three looks are stunning, the slinky and modern Swarovski-studded gown with a revealing keyhole cut-out is the least exciting. One of two reception dresses that Lopez wore over the course of the night, it gets a little lost in the wedding shuffle. We're giving it bonus points for the sheer, hood-shaped veil that offers a fun, fashion-forward twist on the otherwise fairly unimaginative style. Because, while the look is gorgeous, and on-brand for Lopez's sultry, body-conscious style, it's not necessarily making much of a statement. Sexy is not, in of itself, memorable. Compared to Lopez's other choices, it ends up looking underwhelming.
The classic Valentino lace gown
Jennifer Lopez met Cris Judd on the set of her "Love Don't Cost a Thing" music video in January 2001, and the couple were married just eight months later. Love might not cost a thing, but, presumably, her stunning custom gown from Valentino cost Lopez a pretty penny.
The beaded, lace gown was delicate and beautiful. From the sheer sleeves to the deep V neckline, the style is pretty, flattering, and incredibly bridal. But while it's certainly a timeless choice, that almost works against the look, which comes off more generically bridal than reflective of Lopez's individual persona and taste. The pop star knows how to make a statement—and yet here, for some reason, she did not. Several of her other wedding choices are more dramatic and memorable. In the end, the timelessness of the dress meant that its beauty far outlasted the union it symbolized. Lopez and Judd filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences," the following year, and the split was finalized in 2003.
The 90s lace column dress
Jennifer Lopez's first wedding was in 1997 to Cuban actor Ojani Noa, just as her starring role in "Selena" was catapulting the up-and-coming celebrity to A-list levels of fame. The lace column dress is humble, appropriate for a burgeoning star who was truly still "Jenny from the block." The silhouette is giving major 90s vibes, as is her brown-hued lip color and shimmery eye shadow. White flowers add a sweet detail to Lopez's updo.
It's hardly Lopez's most lavish bridal choice, and the fit isn't exactly couture. Still, there's something endearing about the innocent look, which commits fully to the 90s moment, and reflects Lopez's sexy, body-conscious style preferences. The couple divorced just 11 months later, in part due to tensions over Lopez's career success, which meant the star would get future opportunities to wear bespoke, couture dresses. Still, this gown gets points for how earnestly the star's personality shines through in the choice.
The body-skimming Zuhair Murad lace gown
For her private Las Vegas nuptials, Jennifer Lopez changed into a second look after the ceremony: a stunning lace Zuhair Murad gown that showcased the star's figure. The off-the-shoulder dress featured a corset bodice, long sleeves, and an off-the-shoulder neckline. The sexy style featured lace embroidery over sheer fabric, with a long skirt that pooled at the star's feet. It was the perfect counterpoint to the Alexander McQueen dress that she wore earlier in the evening—sexy and intricate in perfect contrast to the other dress with its classic shape and understated detailing.
A little sultry maximalism feels like the perfect choice for Lopez, who appears to only be getting hotter in her fifties. It's one of her best looks. A statement dress that is elegant without sacrificing sex appeal. Its only flaw? Compared to her bespoke looks, particularly those designed by Ralph Lauren, it's not her most original choice. But then, when you have five looks for one marriage, only one can be the most memorable.
The dramatic cathedral-style train by Ralph Lauren
One of the three bespoke Ralph Lauren looks that Jennifer Lopez wore for her 2022 Georgia wedding ceremony to Ben Affleck was a high-necked gown with fluttering cap sleeves and a cascading, ruffled train. The voluminous trailing skirt was constructed of more than 1,000 handkerchiefs and 500 meters of fabric. The cathedral veil was a finishing bridal touch on the dramatic look. Lopez offset the extravagant dress with pearl and diamond jewelry by Japanese jewelry designer Mikimoto.
The style is both stunningly bridal and winningly original. The turtleneck column dress makes a memorable statement, evokes the classic wedding gown, and hugs her curves in all the right ways. For a union as anticipated as Lopez's marriage to Affleck, the dress needed to be dramatic. This choice succeeds because it's both classic and modern—a statement spin on romance that suits the climatic event.
The pearl-adorned Ralph Lauren gown
The highest honor goes to the pearl-draped gown, another Ralph Lauren creation, that Jennifer Lopez wore to celebrate her union to Ben Affleck in 2022. The second of three gowns she donned for the celebration, it's an exercise in bridal opulence—featuring a body-skimming design and long, cascading strands of pearls that covered the star from head to toe. Thirty artisans worked to handcraft the gown. The dress features a turtleneck with pearl strands that wrapped around the star's neck, a cutaway back that dipped low to her hips, and was embellished with micro pleats and Swarovski crystals.
In the end, it's the most original of Lopez's wedding looks—timeless and sexy at the same time. It accentuates her curves, catches the light, and is completely unlike the other looks she has worn. The gorgeous style will still be beautiful, even though her nearly twenty-year love story with Affleck appears to be at an end.
How we ranked Jennifer Lopez's wedding dresses
Given that Jennifer Lopez is a pop culture icon, for our ranking, we considered dresses that exemplified her glamorous, romantic style. The dress she wore for a secret, at-home ceremony to Marc Anthony in 2004 was omitted since no public photos were released of the dress, though it was reportedly designed by Vera Wang.
The highest-ranked styles reflect Lopez's natural style and persona, while also making a bold sartorial statement and looking classically bridal. Thought was given to each gown's era, as well as how it reflected Lopez during that period of her life and career. Dresses were ranked lower if they seemed likely to look particularly dated. The best dresses made sense within the larger media narrative about Lopez's love life—particularly the ones that reflected her long-term on-again-off-again relationship with Ben Affleck. The highest-ranked dresses walked the fine line of reflecting Lopez as an individual, making a memorable statement, and looking timeless.
