Outfits That Prove Hunter Schafer Is A Total Style Icon

If you know Hunter Schafer's backstory, it should come as no surprise that the actress and model has become a total style icon since breaking into Hollywood. Although she rose to fame playing Jules in "Euphoria," the New Jersey native's professional interests originally laid in fashion and art. "I first got interested in fashion when I was a kid," she told GQ. "I was drawing a bunch of comics and I realized what I liked about making characters was drawing their outfits."

Schafer studied visual design during her high school years at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, contributing illustrations and comics to the online magazine Rookie. She was also recognized as a U.S. Presidential Scholar semifinalist. Schafer was working as a model – one of the notable transgender models bringing inclusivity to the fashion industry – with plans to study fashion when the "Euphoria" casting call came her way.

Though the celeb has committed to acting since landing her HBO role, appearing in movies like "Cuckoo" and "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes," she maintains a passion for fashion and art, and her love for the former clearly manifests in some amazing red carpet and fashion week ensembles. The "Kinds of Kindness" actor has worked consistently with stylist Dara Allen to create looks ranging from ethereal glamour to chic grunge, never failing to live up to her style icon status.

Hunter was a walking masterpiece in this Marni gown

Hunter Schafer made an entrance at the GQ Global Creativity Awards in April 2024, wearing a Marni gown designed by Francesco Risso. While this masterpiece of a look ranks as another iconic fashion moment from Shafer, it also speaks to her love of art and visual design. The structured garment, which featured a V-shaped neckline and an ankle-length hem, was hand-painted to resemble impressionist artwork.

The circular blends of yellows and grey against the dynamic blue and white background were especially reminiscent of Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night," with Schafer opting for matching, hand-painted heels. The celeb went for simple styling to let the custom piece shine, wearing her hair long in a deep side-part and sporting soft, brown-toned eyeshadow that highlighted her light blue eyes

Schafer was honored at the event, which "celebrates the world's most fearless and inspiring creatives," according to GQ. British actor and filmmaker Michaela Coel presented Schafer with the award. Not only did Schafer and Coel collaborate on "Mother Mary," but the "Euphoria" actor also presented an award to "I May Destroy You," a Coel-created series, back in 2021, making it a full circle moment.

Her Golden Globes look channeled ethereal beauty

Earlier in 2024, Hunter Schafer looked like an ethereal specter in her Golden Globes ensemble. The "Cuckoo" actor wore a custom Prada gown to the event, a pink-toned piece that took inspiration from the brand's spring 2024 collection.

A floor-length column gown with a jewel neckline made up the base of the garment, with gauzy lengths of silk-like fabric giving it a dynamic and ghost-like appearance. As for styling, Schafer donned soft pink blush and lip color and pulled her hair into a slicked back bun, demonstrating her mastery of the art. We love the ghostly glamour of this look, which Shafer balanced beautifully with her simple styling.

Wearing Prada also makes sense for Schafer, who was an ambassador for the brand back in 2021. "I love Prada because I think at its core, it channels a sort of tender awkward beauty, which I feel very aligned with," Schafer told British Vogue. "Prada has always seemed beyond the framework of trends and whatnot, it's about the art."

The star's Hunger Games look belonged in the Capitol

Hunter Schafer sported several head-turning looks for the premieres and screenings of "The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." She played Tigris Snow, cousin to future Panem president Coriolanus Snow, in the prequel film. The model expertly channeled Capitol glamour in each of her press tour outfits, but her bouquet-inspired ensemble for the New York City screening ranks as our favorite.

The Marni mini-dress featured a variety of illustrated flowers, including cosmos and roses, but the garment's 3D floral appliques, which seemed to bloom off the dress every which way, was the real jaw-dropping element. Allowing the pink and red hued flowers to take center stage, Schafer pulled her hair back into a low bun, opted for a light pink lip color, and wore simple white heels.

The beauty and drama of the piece definitely feels like it belongs in the Capitol, with fans quickly drawing comparisons to the Alexander McQueen dress worn by metropolitan guide Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." "I think if there's any designer that I associate with 'The Hunger Games,' right off the bat, it's Alexander McQueen," she told British Vogue. "They used it in the original movies, and he's the best. He's my literal favorite in the world."

Hunter gave moody grunge in this Vanity Fair gown

Another supremely stylish Hunter Schafer moment came during the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, when the New Jersey native donned a Rick Owens dress. The long-sleeved trumpet gown was made with partially bleached denim and included a distressed hem and cuffs for a faded, grunge-inspired effect.

Schafer accessorized with a collared necklace from De Beers and rocked the wet hair look with a middle part and face-framing pieces. This ensemble also belongs on the list of Hunter Schafer's most striking beauty looks, with her dark, pointed eyeshadow, light lip gloss, and upward-shaped brows perfectly balancing her moody dress.

Makeup artist Sandy Ganzer shared details of the look with Vogue, explaining that she was inspired by LA's cloudy weather in the days leading up to the event. "When I showed Hunter the face chart, the first thing she said was that she loved the 'stormy eye' and thought it picked up the colors of the dress perfectly," Ganzer said. "I love that without even telling her my inspiration she picked up on it intuitively and we were all completely on the same page."

She channeled pared-back goth vibes at the Gotham Awards

Hunter Schafer served style icon at the 2021 Gotham Awards, despite the fact that it was a socially-distanced ceremony. She sported a corseted dress from Givenchy, with the strappy garment equipped with a leather belt of mismatched padlocks. The LGBTQ+ activist accessorized with platform boots and an assortment of gold jewelry from Darius Jewels, pulling her hair back into a middle-parted bun. Instead of carrying the edgy vibes into her beauty, she opted for a pared-back makeup look featuring peach-toned eyeshadow and a soft pink lip color.

Schafer wrote about the stylish ensemble in a diary-style essay featured in The New York Times, referring to her dress as bondage-inspired and describing the jewelry collection designed by her friend Darius Khonsary as "gold, antique-looking pieces that are also modern and mythical."

Schafer collaborated with well-known stylist Law Roach for the award show look. Roach is most known for being the long-time stylist for Zendaya, who's had a jaw-dropping style transformation – but he also worked with Schafer before pulling back from large-scale celebrity work. Still, no matter what stylist she's working with, Schafer always impresses us with her fashion prowess.
