The Butter Skin Makeup Trend Is Coming For Your Spring 2025 Beauty Routine

The glass skin trend saw beauty lovers reflecting on the ultimate high-shine glow. Glazed donut skin brought us a deliciously dewy finish that looked good enough to eat. Cloud skin was an airy, soft-focus dream. But for spring 2025, butter skin is churning out major buzz.

If earlier beauty trends didn't feel authentic to you, or you're looking to shake up your routine, butter skin could be the smooth, spreadable middle ground you've been waiting for. In an exclusive interview with Women, Los Angeles makeup artist Kim Paige described butter skin as "a look that leaves your skin moisturized, hydrated, and dewy for a plump and glowy complexion." This look is especially compatible with those who wear minimal makeup, as it works to enhance the skin's natural glow, rather than relying on layering heavy products.

The trend comes just in time for spring and summer, as Paige notes: "Our skin adapts to the changes in temperature and humidity during this time of year, making dewy, hydrated skin the go-to look." For the final sun-kissed flourishes, soft strokes of highlighter on the high points of the face complete the look, Paige added. With a finish this flawless, butter skin is spreading fast.

How to achieve the butter skin look

Butter skin is easier to achieve than you might think — no churning required. Paige recommends "starting with a rich, cream-based moisturizer" to deeply nourish the skin. Her favourite is the ReVive Sensitif Renewal Cream, but if you're looking for a more affordable option, she suggests Skin by Brownlee & Co's Toned Brightening Night Cream, which delivers the same velvety finish without the steep price tag.

Next, a mist of hydrating setting spray refreshes the skin and preps it for makeup, helping everything blend seamlessly. When it comes to foundation, she recommends Black Radiance's True Complexion Tinted Moisturizer, praising its lightweight texture that melts into the skin without masking it. With built-in SPF, it has a breathable base that pairs well with sheer concealer — just enough to brighten whilst still allowing your natural complexion to shine through.

For the final flourishes, delicate kisses of highlighter on the high points of the face (the cheekbones, nose bridge, and inner corners of the eyes) complete the look, and can be buffed in with a light hand. One last spritz of hydrating setting spray will tie everything together, and voila! You have a toast-worthy look. We're certain you'll want to butter up to this trend before it melts into the next big thing.
