Sofia Vergara Outfits That Completely Missed The Mark
Sofia Vergara might be one of the most beautiful women alive, but this doesn't mean she's immune to wardrobe mishaps. The stunning Colombian-American actor is a red carpet veteran, and with the number of times she's been in front of cameras, there's bound to be a few hiccups. One mild form of criticism that Vergara has received is aimed at her proclivity to wear a mermaid silhouette. But the "Griselda" star defended herself, telling Glamour in September 2013: "Why would I go away from what looks good on me? I've tried a million other shapes, and this is the one I always go back to. It's important to know what looks good on you." She went on to say that when walking red carpets, her priority is to feel good in what she's wearing, and we can't knock that.
One of the things that makes Vergara so lovable is that she's frank about how she looks. She's busty, which can add some complications when sizing a dress. "The key for my body is tailoring," Vergara told Vogue. "I spend more money on tweaking and fixing the clothes than the actual clothes." Her curves are her thing, but they're also a lot of work. Vergara has also made candid comments about aging and plastic surgery, something she openly admits to doing, and we love the transparency. Knowing she has a sense of humor allows us to empathetically appreciate the (few) moments when Vergara's fashions have missed the mark.
Sofia Vergara's cold shoulder dress at the Golden Globes wasn't it
The cold shoulder dress is one of those designs that's best left in the 2010s when it peaked. It could easily fit in with outdated trends you don't want to be caught wearing. At the 2017 Golden Globes, Sofia Vergara broke with this philosophy by arriving in a shimmery gold gown with nude paneling that regrettably featured cold shoulder cut-outs. The dress was really beautiful otherwise, and so the rest of Vergara's look that night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel was great. The dress boasted long, sheer sleeves and it swept the floor, so it was certainly red carpet-appropriate. She wore her hair pulled back in a high ponytail and rocked a deep, warm lip. Her gold, tonal earrings matched the drama of the gown. It was just that one, unfortunate element of the dress that threw off the ensemble as a whole.
Sofia Vergara's sunglasses and bustier combo wasn't her best look
Sofia Vergara could look good in a paper bag, so when we note outfits of hers that aren't great, it's just because we know what she's capable of. Normally, she's a goddess on the red carpet and a complete show-stopper, so when this doesn't happen, it can be a bit of a surprise. At the 2024 America's Got Talent red carpet, Vergara arrived in a bustier top by Laura Basci that was black with sheer paneling and featured glossy, reptile scales in other parts. She paired the top with wide-leg, black pants and finished off the look with statement sunglasses. She finished it off with gold jewelry, including earrings by Melinda Maria.
While Vergara undoubtedly looked glamorous and put together, her look didn't carry the wow factor that many of her red carpet moments tend to have. For one, Vergara looks amazing in bright colors, and the all-black outfit can be a bit drab. On top of that, we love seeing her beautiful face, and so the fact that she wore sunglasses made her feel farther away from fans, ultimately removing her from the experience.
Her yellow pantsuit was like sexy pyjamas
In August 2022, Sofia Vergara walked the red carpet for Season 17 of "America's Got Talent," held in Pasadena, California. She arrived in a bright yellow pantsuit that featured high-waisted, wide-leg trousers and a coordinating strapless top with yellow, platform heels. Vergara wore a vivid, orange-red lip, showcasing why incorporating a pop of red into your makeup looks is such a great idea. She finished off the ensemble by wearing long, silver earrings.
Vergara usually goes for mermaid gowns or skinny jeans, so seeing her in wide-leg trousers was a new look — one that we couldn't quite wrap our heads around. While we love to see a star experiment with silhouettes, the matching outfit looked more like a pajama set than a red-carpet ensemble. Part of the problem was that the outfit was yellow, which can be tricky, and the other issue was that it was in a satin finish, so it looked like glamorous loungewear.
Sofia Vergara's zebra print jumpsuit was objectionable
Sofia Vergara unleashed her inner animal when she walked the "America's Got Talent" red carpet in a zebra jumpsuit in August 2023. She's legitimately such a stunner that she can make even the whackiest outfits work, but we'd rather see her in something that lets her beauty shine. The plunging jumpsuit, with its billowy pants, and silver belt, had a lot going on. The busy print, from head to toe, did not cut it as one of Vergara's most sensational red carpet ensembles.
There was one cute detail about the fit, though. Vergara's co-judge on "America's Got Talent," Heidi Klum, also wore a zebra print outfit to the event. Klum's getup was a sequin mini dress with zebra print paneling, so the two judges adorably matched. It was a cute surprise; one that redeemed the overwhelming jumpsuit for us, even if it wasn't Vergara's best moment.
Sofia Vergara's black pantsuit was like a catering uniform
One of our least favorite outfits that we've ever seen on Sofia Vergara included black pants and a top that she wore to the red carpet event for "America's Got Talent" on September 12, 2023. She wore a black and silver halter that featured a keyhole cutout in the bust with silver trim and a silver flower. This was fine, but the unexpected elements emerged with her black pants and black belt. The slacks looked like something that a caterer might wear when working an event, and not something we'd expect from Vergara when she's pulling out all the stops.
As usual, Vergara's hair and makeup were flawless. The issue was solely with her pants, and how out of character they seemed on the "Modern Family" star. They looked utilitarian and masculine, which clashed against the streamlined look on her upper half. Her chunky platform sandals didn't help the situation, either.
