Sarah Huckabee Sanders Outfits That Prove She Needs To Let The Leather Look Go

In a remarkably niche expression of personal style, Sarah Huckabee Sanders shows she can't get enough of leather looks. The Governor of Arkansas and former White House press secretary to President Donald Trump has proven over and over again that she loves a roomy, animal garment. It's certainly not unusual for people to gravitate towards certain styles or favor a particular fabric, but leather is certainly one of the more unusual repeats. It's not exactly breathable, nor is it famously comfortable. 

Sure, leather as outerwear is popular. Leather dusters have long been one of the sought-after coats of winter. Similarly, a brown, leather jacket can be trendy and easy to style for cold weather outings. While this all may be self-evident, Sanders pushes the look well beyond outerwear. In fact, we rarely see her in leather jackets. Instead, she goes for leather dresses, leather slacks, leather skirts, and even — believe it — leather shorts.

The problem with leather is that, unless its skin tight or used to construct a jacket, it can look ill-fitting; as such, Sanders' outfits end up looking shapeless. A loose, leather jacket is one thing, but a loose, leather dress is more unusual. It's just one facet of Sander's fashion fails that proves she needs a new stylist. And as far as her love of leather goes, it's high time for a change. 

Sarah Huckabee Sanders shared a photo to Instagram on March 6, 2025, of herself, husband Bryan Chatfield Sanders, and basketball legend, Scottie Pippen. While the photo was no doubt a thrill for NBA fans, Sanders exhibited her signature look of incorporating a piece of leather. For this occasion, it was drawstring leather slacks with an elastic waistband that Sanders paired with a black top. To be fair, some people liked her pants. "Love those leather pants," a fan commented. However, given that the two men alongside her were wearing cotton suits, the trouser choice seemed unusually out of place. 

Sarah Huckabee Sanders wore some very patriotic red, leather shorts that cinched at the waist with a coordinating belt for an event that welcomed Coach Sam Pittman of the University of Arkansas to the Governor's Mansion in September 2023. To be fair, the colors for the Arkansas Razorbacks football team are white and red, so Sanders was on the nose there. But while the outfit itself was fine, the glossy, red leather shorts, which hit about mid thigh, felt out of place. It seemed unclear whether she was dressing for a political event or a daytime brunch. 

In another candid shot shared on Instagram in October 2024, Sarah Huckabee Sanders posed with her husband, Bryan Chatfield Sanders, and Nashville-born singer and rapper, Jelly Roll. Sanders noted in the caption that she and her husband went to Jelly Roll's concert the night before and joined him as he visited a prison in Arkansas, and shared his own story with inmates. "[Jelly Roll] shared his powerful testimony with Arkansans who can see themselves in his story and were moved to tears by it," Sanders wrote of the powerful experience. For the occasion, Sanders wore a black leather, drawstring dress that looked better suited for a funeral.

During the event, she spoke highly of her experience as the White House press secretary, and encouraged the crowd to vote. While this is all to be expected from the Republican Governor of Arkansas, what was unexpected was Sanders' choice of outfit. She wore a surprisingly short, brown leather skirt for the occasion and paired it with tan boots and a black turtleneck; which may be typical fashion for a girls' night out, but not a political rally. The skirt bunched at her waist, and created an unflattering silhouette, no doubt because of how bulky leather can be.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders pulled out a short, brown leather dress for an interview on February 22, 2025 at the Conservative Political Action Conference. For the event, she spoke with Mercedes Schlapp, President Donald Trump's former White House director of strategic communications, and the two discussed Trump's merits. The fact that Sanders chose to wear a mini leather dress to CPAC felt like a strange decision. Since leather is such a recognizable fabric, and traditionally quite sumptuous and seductive, and it stands out even more when it's an entire garment. It was a questionable choice to wear such a distracting piece of clothing on stage in a political setting, where the focus should be on discussing policy.
