Riley Keough's Reading List Is Full Of Classic Books
While Riley Keough has made a name for herself as an actor, appearing in movies like "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Logan Lucky," the Hollywood figure also has a hand in the literary landscape. In addition to starring in the Hello Sunshine-produced series "Daisy Jones and the Six," one of the Reese's Book Club picks to land an adaptation, the California-native co-authored the posthumously published memoir of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley. "[My mom] wanted to write a book in the hopes that someone could read her story and relate to her, to know that they're not alone in the world," the actor told People. "Her hope with this book was just human connection. So that's mine."
Given this significant experience, it's unsurprising that Keough's reading list reflects an appreciation for great, well-written celebrity memoirs. She mentions "Will There Really Be a Morning" by Frances Farmer and "The Heroin Diaries" by Nikki Six to Oprah Daily as standout reads for her and her mother. "She really loved memoirs, especially musicians' memoirs, and extra especially heavy metal musicians' memoirs," she told the outlet about Presley, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 54. Beyond moving memoirs, Keough's bookshelf is all about surrealist stories and childhood favorites, with some amazing classic novels landing on her reading list.
Several of Riley's favorites are classics connected to childhood
If you're looking for a classic novel to select for your next book club pick, Riley Keough has plenty of great recommendations. The actor highlighted some of her favorites in a Lit Check video made with Reese's Book Club, ranking "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott and "Anne of Green Gables" by L.M. Montgomery as childhood favorites. "I just loved ['Anne of Green Gables'] when I was a little girl," Keough said. "I just was, like, obsessed with [Anne] and just wanted to live her life."
The celeb also has an affinity for epic and fantastical tales, mentioning the "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien in her interview with Oprah Daily. The 1937-published novel centers around Bilbo Baggins and serves as an early introduction to many of the beloved characters from the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. "My dad used to read 'The Hobbit' to me and my brother at bedtime," she said. "It's the first real memory I have with an adult book."
This love for fantasy translates into the star's preference for surrealism, with Keough noting Japanese classic "Kafka on the Shore" by Haruki Murakami as a favorite. Described by the actor as "stunning [and] moving," this bizarre and metaphysical novel follows the intertwined journey of two unlikely companions, teenage runaway Kafka Tamura and elderly veteran Nakata. "Surrealism was the first genre where I thought, oh, this is what I really like," she said. "So: deeper down the rabbit hole I went." Whether you're a big fan of Keough or just love classic literature, these are all TBR-worthy picks from the Hollywood figure.
