The Awkward Wardrobe Malfunction Ivanka Trump Will Never Live Down

Ivanka Trump experienced quite a wardrobe malfunction while in Bogotá, Colombia, in September 2019. This, of course, was way back when Ivanka was serving as a senior advisor to the president during Donald Trump's first term. She visited Colombia in the hopes of sparking conversations around women's economic empowerment, but instead she sparked a lot of chatter about her dress sleeves catching some serious breeze. 

While posing with Colombian Vice President Marta Lucia Ramirez and Colombian Minister of National Defense Guillermo Botero at the launch of the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs in Colombia, Ivanka's army green dress pulled focus for all the wrong reasons. As the wind picked up, the floppy, bell-shaped sleeves blew open and stopped just short of covering her face. This not only made for an unfortunate and awkward group photo, but it's a look that seems impossible for her to live down. 

On X, one user quipped that Ivanka's sleeves reminded them of a pair of frilled-neck reptiles. "Let's take another look at Ivanka's dress," they began, posting a photo of the wardrobe malfunction. "Ivanka's huge frills lie down until she is startled or is subpoenaed to testify, and then they flare up defensively, just like the lizard's!" Another X user, who clearly didn't agree with Ivanka or her father's politics, wrote, "OMG Ivanka Trump Visits Colombia with sleeves billowing in the air like Flying Nun x The Hunger Games. When will she just FLY AWAY FOREVER?"

There certainly was a lot of heat on Ivanka Trump while she was still working with her father, President Donald Trump, during his first term. For one thing, a number of people took issue with Ivanka acting as a senior advisor to the president, calling her a nepo baby and claiming she had no experience for the position. On top of that, the green sleeve fiasco was just one of many wardrobe blunders she made. Ivanka wore several outfits that completely missed the mark, from channeling Serena Joy Waterford in "The Handmaid's Tale" to wearing a silver, metallic dress when many were discussing migrant children being wrapped in thermal blankets. Those were some big misses, to say the least.

Ivanka has also rocked a few scandalous outfits, like the time she sported a peach mini skirt to meet the then-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan. Ivanka also wore a few outdated trends that didn't make her look as polished and professional as people might've expected. Needless to say, Ivanka certainly has taken some big sartorial swings over the years. However, we are inclined to assume that she will think twice about wearing a dress with such billowy sleeves ever again. Or at the very least, she'll make sure they're pinned down accordingly.
