Shailene Woodley ranks among the celebrities you probably didn't know have naturally curly hair, with the actor letting her ringlets loose for her role in the limited series "Three Women." The 2023 TV show saw the California native in the role of Gia Lombardi, a fictionalized version of author and series writer Lisa Taddeo. "One of my favorite things about playing GIA in '[T]hree [W]omen' was finally letting my lion hair roar for a character," Woodley wrote on Instagram, baring her wild mane in a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos and shouting out hairstylists Kari Hill and Maria Garcia.
The "Divergent" star spoke to Parade about showing off her wild tresses in the series, crediting her mom's genetics for her natural curls and relating the voluminous appearance to her character's emotional dichotomy. "There's something about having lioness hair and this big bush around you that makes your energy bigger on the outside than it is sometimes on the inside," she told the outlet. "In so many ways [Gia] feels big in herself and she's brave and she travels across the country and she speaks her mind...But then internally, there's this very scared little girl that just wants to be told it's all going to be okay."
Shailene shared some of her favorite haircare products
In addition to landing on the list of celebrities who look gorgeous with their natural hair, Shailene Woodley has occasionally opened up about how she keeps her wild mane in check. Back in 2014, the Hollywood figure revealed to Into The Gloss that she prefers a minimalist haircare routine. "The less I put in it, the better," she said. "I only shampoo it like once a month—the oilier, the better."
Woodley went on to share some of her preferred products with the New York Times in 2019, with the "Big Little Lies" actor mentioning Kevin.Murphy's Hydrate-Me.Wash Hydrating Shampoo and Hydrate-Me.Rinse Moisturizing Conditioner as some of her favorites. "They leave my hair feeling soft," she said. When it comes to styling, the celeb explained that she typically avoids heat tools in favor of Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Balm-to-Oil Pre-Shampoo Masque.
"I put it on my hair when it's dry, and it makes it look wet and oily in a good way," Woodley said. "I have very thick hair. When I wear it in a ponytail, it's the size of a horse's tail. The masque tames it but also makes it easy to style." Lastly, she mentions the Tokyo treatment from Paris-based stylist David Mallett as her go-to for post-dye hair repair. Overall, Woodley may look wild and free with her natural hair, but it's clear that her lion-like mane does take a bit of maintenance.
