Best Grey's Anatomy Characters of All Time, According to You
We love everyone on Grey's Anatomy but it takes something special to be one of the best characters on Grey's Anatomy. Not everyone has what it takes to be charming, intelligent, and an overall great doctor.
Oh, and we're not just talking doctors here, some of our favorite patients deserve to be on that list too! We admit that we do get a little bit too attached to the Grey's characters, but we can't help ourselves. It doesn't hurt until, of course, Shonda Rhimes decides it's time to kill or get rid of our favorite characters. It's literally inevitable that every time we fall in love with a character on Grey's, we find ourselves saying goodbye not too much later.

Sure, Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) can be stubborn and cold at times, but she's absolutely hilarious. We love watching her do anything from making drinks at the bar to performing heart surgeries.
Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) has come a long way since the beginning of Grey's Anatomy. He is now the Head of Pediatric Surgery at Grey Sloan and married to Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington).
Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) doesn't get enough credit for how great she is. She's a brilliant orthopedic surgeon who exhibits great strength and determination at the hospital and at home.
There would be no Grey's Anatomy if it wasn't for the star herself, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). She's an excellent surgeon and mother, plus her romance with Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is epic.
Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) comes off a bit strong at first, but that's only because she wants the absolute best for her interns.
Aside from his obviously beautiful physical features, Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) is an amazing plastic surgeon and a genuinely sweet guy.
Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) may not be perfect, but he truly has served as the backbone of Grey Sloan since the beginning. He has suffered great losses along the way but somehow is able to remain humble.
Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is a genius neurosurgeon with hobbies including looking beautiful and saving lives.
It seemed like everyone in the hospital loved Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), especially Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) who loved him so much that she killed him.
Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) is the first wife of Derek and a world-class neonatal surgeon.
Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) is smart, spunky, and adorable. She was everything that Meredith didn't even know she needed.
Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington) is a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon who left a great legacy on Grey's Anatomy. He even had a short lived romance with Cristina until he left her at the altar on their wedding day.
Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) is a cardiothoracic surgeon that Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) gave to Cristina as a gift. Teddy and Owen's history goes back to their service in the U.S. Army together.
Without Ellis Grey (Kate Burton), this show wouldn't be possible. She paved the way for Meredith to become a talented surgeon, and also had a romantic history with Dr. Webber.
Owen Hunt joined the Grey's family as a trauma surgeon who previously served in the U.S. Army.
Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) worked as a cardiothoracic surgeon and is remembered mostly by her romantic involvement with Callie, as well her long-time rivalry with Dr. Burke
What is there not to love about Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw)? She's a pediatric surgeon who lost one of her legs in the infamous Grey's Anatomy plane crash.
Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) is the sister of Derek, who made her own name for herself as an excellent neurosurgeon.
Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) better known as McSteamy is definitely a fan favorite. He's a total heart breaker and an amazing plastic surgeon.
Unfortunately, April Kepner (Sarah Drew) hasn't had the best of luck during her time on Grey's Anatomy. However, she's proven herself to be a great doctor and friend.
Izzie Stevens time on Grey's was cut short. Toward the end of her days on the show, she was diagnosed with cancer and married Alex.
George is a total sweetheart who we lost to a terribly gruesome bus accident at the start of the sixth season.
Jo is a talented surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, not to mention she's drop dead gorgeous. She's come a long way since first joining the cast.
We were giving Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) a chance at Meredith since she's been single, but it just didn't work out between the two. Riggs actually has a history in the U.S. Army, and it's revealed that he and Owen have a history.
Just when we thought things couldn't get any more twisted on Grey's, Meredith found out she has another sister. It turns out Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) is actually an excellent cardiothoracic surgeon.
Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) worked her way up from an intern to a surgical resident during her time on Grey's. She eventually leaves the hospital to travel the world after she was badly burned due to an explosion.
Catherine Avery is the mother of Jackson. She works partially helping to run Grey Sloan but also does work as a urologist.
Adele Webber (Loretta Devine) is the wife of Richard who eventually succumbed to Alzheimer's disease.
In Ben Warren's (Jason George) history on Grey's, he's changed career paths twice already. He now works as a firefighter and EMT who is married to Dr. Bailey.
Henry Burton (Scott Foley) is the husband of Teddy Altman who dies in a surgery being performed by Cristina.
Andrew Deluca joined the show as a surgical intern (a hot one, too) but has a history working as an EMT.
