Sarah Drew Says Leaving Grey's Anatomy Was Like Attending Her Own Funeral
So how does Sarah Drew really feel about her departure from Grey's Anatomy? We've taken a closer look at her reaction!
Sarah Drew On Leaving Grey's Anatomy
Drew told Vulture, "In a way, you almost feel like you’re attending your own funeral. Weirdly. But in a really beautiful way." It's pretty clear that she wasn't ready to leave the show, and it seems like fans weren't ready to let her go either.
The love from fans was felt by Drew, "I think that in being let go, the outcry of support from fans, from my cast, from my crew, was so extraordinary. I talk about it as being love bombed," she said. "It’s like when you’re let go before something ends and when it’s not your choice, people come up and tell you why they love you and how much they love you and what you meant to them."
Sarah Drew Finds A Silver Lining Amidst Her Departure
Although Drew doesn't seem to happy about her time on Grey's coming to an end, she takes this opportunity to look at the bright side. "There’s been so many silver linings," she told Vulture. Since the split with Grey's, Drew has had other career successes. For one example, she was nominated for an Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series Emmy. This nomination is for directing the digital series Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team.
Drew is looking further into producing and directing since leaving behind the role on Grey's, “I’m so excited to produce more and direct more. I’ve been feeling like actually walking away from the show has been the most excited that I’ve ever been in years!"
One thing Drew refuses to give into is fan theories. There's too many rumors circulating on the internet that she fears she will come to believe, “Oh, jeez. I gotta say, I actually can’t go there … if I start to think that maybe it’s something other than what I was told, I just go down a rabbit hole that is not healthy for me."
After Drew has given so much to Grey's Anatomy these past years, we're just as excited as she is to see her progress and grow!
