James Gandolfini plays the main protagonist, Tony Soprano on The Sopranos. He runs New Jersey's most powerful crime organization, ensuring things run smoothly and dissonance is kept to a minimum.
Peter Paul "Paulie Walnuts" Gualtieri (Tony Sirico) works his way all the way up to become an underboss of the DiMeo crime family after serving his time as a soldato and a caporegime.
Corrado John Soprano Jr. (Dominic Chianese) plays the role of the official boss of the DiMeo crime family for the most part. He's initially portrayed as a bitter old-fashioned man, but as the series continues his character shows a more considerate and humorous side.
Carmela Soprano (Edie Falco) is the loving and supportive wife of Mafia boss Tony Soprano. Although she knows her husband must be involved in illegal activity to obtain his income, she tries to look past it. Carmela is a trooper considering the fact that she's also aware that Tony has cheated on her.
Portrayed by Lorraine Bracco, Jennifer Melfi is the psychiatrist of Mafia boss Tony Soprano. Jennifer is perhaps the person who has gotten closest to truly dissecting Tony. She is also an Italian-American, with family roots in Caserta.
Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli) acts as Tony Soprano's protégé in the DiMeo crime family. Throughout the course of the series, Christopher has grown his role from associate to caporegime. His loyalty is one of his most cherished qualities.
Silvio Manfred Dante (Steven Van Zandt) is the consigliere and second-in-command to Tony Soprano. His original dream in life was to be a professional singer, but he settled for crime instead, while still maintaining a connection to show business through club ownership.
Big Pussy Bonpensiero
Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero (Vincent Pastore) is a kind-hearted father and husband who happens to have a solid career in crime. He acts as a loyal soldier in the Soprano crew, as well as a close friend to Tony Soprano.
Adriana La Cerva
Adriana La Cerva (Drea de Matteo) is the long-time girlfriend and later fiancée of Christopher. She grew up around wiseguys her entire life, dubbing her a mobster's dream girl. She loves materialism and money but she also loves Christopher just as much.
Richie Aprile is portrayed by David Proval throughout the series. Richie was a capo and arguably one of the most ruthless characters on the show. His actions throughout the series demonstrate his sadistically violent and remorseless personality.
