- Gillian's first introduction to political reporting was the 2016 presidential election, during which she covered protests in Berkeley, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. for NBC.
- For a press junket, she played darts with Ryan Reynolds and TJ Miller and lost (embarrassingly).
- While working for New York Public Media, Gillian witnessed ballet dancers set the Guinness World Record for most dancers on pointe at one time.
Experience
Gillian has worked in digital media for almost a decade, covering digital culture, politics, popular culture, and the many intersections therein. She got her start reporting on arts and culture for The Daily Californian in Berkeley, CA, and eventually covered theater for the East Bay Express, one of the last alt-weeklies in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to joining Women.com, she served as a staff writer for a range of publications, including Mashable, NBC, and Newsweek, where her primary reporting emphasis transitioned from arts and culture to a focus on women's rights and national breaking news. Over the course of her career, she has covered everything from hyperlocal city council meetings to the 2016 Presidential Election, usually with a focus on how public policy shapes and influences women's lives. In addition to writing, Gillian is a short-form video producer, and her shorts have been broadcast by NBC and published by New York Public Media.
Education
Gillian has a bachelor's degree in Media Studies from University of California, Berkeley. She began her graduate coursework in media studies at the New School in 2018.
