'Grey's Anatomy': Ellen Pompeo Gives Advice to Young Women in Hollywood
"Don’t take any s—."
Ellen Pompeo's Advice to Women is Exactly What We Need Right Now
In the past, Pompeo has voiced her support for the #MeToo movement as well as her disapproval of the Trump administration. Now, she has a word or two for young women in Hollywood following the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh. And to be honest, Pompeo's words of encouragement and hope are exactly what we need at this moment, whether or not you're trying to break into Hollywood or you're a working mom.
When speaking to Variety at Elle's Women of Hollywood, Pompeo was candid about how the industry has changed since Time's Up and #MeToo began as well as the work women have ahead of them moving forward.
“I think we’re making incremental progress,” Pompeo said. “We still have a long way to go. Obviously, the appointment of Kavanaugh was a huge punch in the gut, but women have never shied away from hard work before and I don’t think we intend to now.”
“It’s incredible, this organization of this culture of women who is determined to come together, determined to fight together and determined to change the way our workplace looks for not only ourselves, but for all the women across the globe,” she added.
And in terms of getting problematic people out of their positions of power, Pompeo makes it clear that we're not out of the woods yet.
“We still have a few that have to be knocked down,” Pompeo said. "Hopefully we’ll see that day sooner than later.”
And if you couldn't love her more, when asked about advice for young women just starting out in Hollywood today, Pompeo replied honestly.
“Be confident and don’t take any shit," Pompeo said.
And how might you achieve that? Well, it's simple.
"Hopefully, we’re paving the way and educating young women and making that easier for them," Pompeo said. “But I guess you have a to be a bitch, right? Don’t be afraid to be a bitch.”
There it is. We love Ellen even more than we did before. Not only does this statement apply to women in Hollywood, but also women in any industry. It's about time we reclaim the word "bitch" and get shit done.
