Ellen Pompeo opens up on the success of Grey's Anatomy on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Is Grey's Anatomy Renewed for Season 16?

We've been in love with Grey's Anatomy since the series began in 2005, but recently, we've all been speculating when the show will come to an end. And while we already know that star Ellen Pompeo, who has played Meredith Grey since the start of the series, is signed on until season 16, a few rumors, including things Pompeo has said in recent interviews, has made us worry that season 15 will be the show's final run.

Rumors spread even further when a Blind Item was released on Thursday saying that "an original cast member on a long-running drama on one of the Big 5 networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, The CW) is leaving his/her series at the end of the current season. And, by all accounts, the exit is an extremely amicable one."

So will Grey's be canceled anytime soon?

Luckily for us, Pompeo set the record straight on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, revealing a few details on the show's success that are sure to make you smile.

While Pompeo is signed on for season 16, it has yet to be confirmed whether or not Grey's Anatomy will continue. Until now. Maybe.

When asked if there would be a new season, Pompeo answered simply.

"Yes, of course," Pompeo said.

Degeneres then addressed the rumors that there might not be a new season of Grey's, to which Pompeo shot down by bringing up the numbers of the show.

"My contract is still season 16 so I'm completely obligated to do season 16," Pompeo said. "And with these numbers, there's just no end in sight. The show is so popular."

Now, ABC has yet to officially announce the renewal of Grey's Anatomy through season 16. So it's possible that Pompeo is giving us premature information. However, you really can't argue the numbers.

Grey's does incredibly well by the numbers. It would be a massive loss for ABC if they stopped airing new episodes.

Plus this announcement, coming from the show's star, is a big deal, especially since she is so heavily involved behind the scenes.

So, as of now, we are definitely counting on at least one more season of Grey's Anatomy until the end.

But as for the blind item from TV Line, if they are talking about Grey's Anatomy, then our bet is that they are not talking about Pompeo.

It's more likely that we'll be saying goodbye to characters like Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), or Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.).

But for our own sanity, let's just hope that the rumor isn't about Grey's Anatomy at all.
