About Alysha Newman

Alysha’s Olympic career began with gymnastics. At just the age of 13, her gymnastics career fell short due to an injury. After taking a year off, she joined track and field where her journey with pole vaulting began.

Newman’s NCAA career began in 2013 when she joined Eastern Michigan University. Her athletic excellence resulted in her becoming the Mid-American Conference champion and competing in the NCAA tournament.

Before graduating with a major in exercise physiology and a minor in nutrition, she transferred to the University of Miami and began breaking records! She competed in the University of Miami’s Hurricane Alumni Invitational and broke the school’s record, the Atlantic Coast Conference record and the Canadian national record in the women’s pole vault with a 4.60 m (15 ft 1 in). That June, she won the silver medal at the 2016 NCAA Division of the Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She finished her college career as a six-time NCAA Division | All-American.
