Melania May Be Moving To The White House, But Taxpayers Are Still Out $21M

Melania Trump's move to Washington has still left a hefty sum in tax bills.
First Lady Melania Trump and her son Barron Trump will be moving into the White House this summer
. Currently, Melania and Barron reside in New York City's Trump Tower, where they have been living since the inauguration so that the 11-year-old could finish out the school year.
However, People reports that Melania has allegedly been hesitant to move to Washington, D.C. A source close to the First Lady told the magazine, "I don't know if she will ever live away from New York full-time, especially with her son in school there. She loves her home in Manhattan and her independent life."
Melania's decision to remain in New York for the past few months has sparked concerns regarding taxpayer dollars. According to The New York Times, it costs the New York Police Department between $127,000 and $146,000 to protect Melania and Barron — per day. In fact, citizens were so concerned about the expense that they signed a petition that asked the First Lady to move to Washington — or pay for Trump Tower protection herself. At the time of writing, the petition has earned over 547,000 signatures, and will reportedly be delivered to the Senate upon reaching its goal of 1 million signatures.
