Gigi Hadid Rocked The Dress-Over-Pants Trend And Gave Us Unexpected Style Inspo

Remember back in the 2000s when pretty much every Disney Channel star was rocking dresses or skirts over pants? Well, Gigi Hadid wants to bring that back. Only, in a much chicer way (no offense Hilary Duff and Ashley Tisdale, we too were convinced this was a hot look back in the day). Hadid was spotted wearing a white button-down maxi dress while out in New York City, but she gave it an unexpectedly chic twist we weren't anticipating. The stylish model who surprised us with the comeback of denim capris in 2023 had the dress open from just above her belly button and paired it with some on-trend loose blue jeans. Remember, skinny jeans are still on the outs but baggier denim is totally in.

Still rocking the flippy bob we can't get enough of, Hadid added a green and gold part chain belt and embellished pointed-toe pumps to her look. And honestly, we don't hate it. But it turns out Hadid has actually been pushing the dress-over-pants agenda for a while now, because this certainly isn't the first time we've seen her rock this trend.

Back in 2016 while attending Stuart Weitzman's Launch Of The Gigi Boot — yep, this superstar even had her own shoe design with Stuart Weitzman — Gigi Hadid rocked a look that wasn't that dissimilar from the one we've seen her wearing on the streets of the Big Apple. At the launch though, the Victoria's Secret model literally rolled up her sleeves and wore a midi white shirt dress, which didn't seem to be buttoned up at all. Proving she's known how to style a look for years, she added a black corset around her waist to keep the dress together. Underneath all that, she rocked formfitting black pants and shiny lace-up boots. The look is a little outdated today, but take away the corset and opt for baggier jeans like Hadid did in 2024 and you've got a stylish 'fit.

While filming alongside her co-host Tan France for their Netflix fashion show "Next In Fashion" in 2023, Gigi Hadid sported a see-through gold beaded dress over a sheer black corset top and leather-look pants. In one of her chicest and edgiest dress-over-pants looks ever, she also added bicep-high latex black gloves that were so fashion-forward. To really compliment the striking outfit, she even slicked her hair back and painted on a heavy smoky eye for a little extra edge.

Her ensemble also included a cascading asymmetrical blue pleated skirt over matching tailored blue pants. And, we have to say, she totally made it work in a way that not many people could. There are ways we mere mortals can channel Hadid's look off the red carpet, though. For a more everyday and wearable look, opt for a more sleek, shorter skirt or dress over your tailored pants.

Gigi's sister Bella Hadid also made a very convincing case for this surprisingly chic trend when she was spotted out in New York in December 2023. The supermodel made it clear that something matchy-matchy can be a good thing when it comes to the dress and pants combo, as she wowed in a knit gray dress with gray pants in a similar pattern underneath.
