Sofia Vergara's Most Candid Comments About Aging & Plastic Surgery

Sofia Vergara is naturally gorgeous, so it's little surprise that she's the envy of many people everywhere. Unfortunately, having natural beauty has also subject the actor to countless plastic surgery rumors throughout her career. It's been suggested that everything from Vergara's glowing skin to her jaw-dropping body are the result of cosmetic procedures. In 2017, LABB's ARNP and national education director, Jennifer Leebow, told Life & Style she believed Vergara had filler in her cheeks to sculpt her face and smooth her skin. Only, Vergara told Allure in May 2024 that she would never get filler (more to come on that later). But Leebow wasn't done speculating. "Sofia's nasal labial folds and pre-jowl sulcus look smoother as well, which is a combination of contouring the upper face as well as injecting minimal HA's into nasal labial folds," she asserted. Vergara, however, has never confirmed she had that procedure and has downright denied getting any invasive plastic surgery to change her appearance.

That certainly doesn't mean this star is against getting procedures to boost her confidence, though. In fact, this former "Modern Family" actor is actually totally on-board with cosmetic tweaks. In fact she has admitted several times that she's not necessarily sold on the idea of growing older gracefully, getting very candid about her thoughts on aging and plastic surgery multiple times.

Sofia Vergara isn't afraid to try plastic surgery

When it comes to plastic surgery, Vergara believes there's nothing wrong with a little nip and tuck. The actor revealed in a May 2024 interview with Allure that she is open to going under the knife as she ages, telling Allure, "I feel like I'm going to do every plastic surgery that I can do when I'm ready." In fact, the star revealed she would have done more cosmetic procedures already if her busy work scheduled permitted. "Because I'm in front of the camera, it's not like I can do something and then sit in my house recuperating for weeks," she explained.

Vergara shared a similar sentiment while chatting with Redbook all the way back in 2014. "Why not?" she responded when asked if she would consider plastic surgery. "I mean, not yet, but maybe [I'll do] my under-eye bags in my 50s. We'll see what I need, but I'm not saying no!" Two years before that, she also told StyleCaster that she was not against plastic surgery, but shared her hopes that by the time she's ready to get a more invasive procedure or two that there will be more advanced options available.

She knows plastic surgery won't turn back the clock

Though Vergara has admitted more than once that she's not against plastic surgery, she's also realistic about the fact it may not actually make her look younger. "I think that you should go into [plastic surgery] more thinking that you want to look beautiful than trying to look young. Because I don't really think that plastic surgery can make you look young," the "Hot Pursuit" star candidly shared during an interview with Health in 2011 (via CNN). "It can make you look prettier, but if you go with the mentality of being young, I think that's where accidents can happen," she added.

Vergara has also shared that she doesn't fancy dabbling in facial fillers — even though many fillers used in the face can be dissolved – because she feels it may potentially age her. "I feel filler does good when you're really young and you want a little bit more cheeks or to plump your lips a little bit," she told Allure, noting, "At my age... I feel it's not going to make you look younger." And that's a really healthy stance to take, it's important to remember even invasive plastic surgery can't work miracles.

She fights signs of aging with Botox and microneedling

Though not technically under the umbrella of plastic surgery, Sofia Vergara has already dabbled in the procedure world and is one of the celebs who is been open about her cosmetic tweaks. She told Allure she fights the signs of aging with regular Botox treatments, which can have benefits beyond improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles. "I've been doing Botox for a long time in my neck, [around] my eyes," she revealed to the outlet.

Vergara also told Glamour in 2023 that she prefers cosmetic procedures that don't involve much downtime, such as microneedling. Vergara says she uses the treatment to help manage her rosacea. That same year, she opened about her experience with the skincare procedure to People, sharing, "I love microneedling, which can be scary because they take your blood, the PRP, that one I do, which I think is a little bit crazy, but it's not bad." PRP microneedling stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. It involves creating small pricks on the skin in order to encourage the production of more collagen and make the skin look plumper and more youthful.

Even plastic surgeons themselves have had something to say about Vergara's openness regarding her less invasive procedures. Consultant plastic surgeon Aftab Siddiqui told The Sun, "Young women looking to enhance their facial features may find inspiration in Sofia Vergara's emphasis on smaller, less invasive procedures to maintain a natural and age-defying appearance."

Sofia Vergara has clapped back at trolls who called her out for looking her age

Don't think that Sofia Vergara is going to take the haters pointing out that her looks have changed over the years lying down. Back in 2018, a troll commented on one of her Instagram uploads by telling her (via JustJared), "Lately I've been noticing that [you] did something to your face... I can't find what but your face looks a little bit different now." But the star was quick to clap back, bluntly replying, "It's called aging."

Five years later, Vergara admitted to Glamour that she actually stopped reading the comments people left on her social media posts because so many people were accusing her of getting plastic surgery she didn't actually have. Even though she hadn't had any. "I read it and it's like, 'She has done so much stuff to herself that she doesn't even look like her anymore.' And I'm thinking, 'It's not like you have plastic surgery to look worse than before, come on!'" she explained. Vergara also took aim at those drawing attention to her changing looks and blaming it on her getting procedures, clapping back, "I always want to say, 'No, it's called aging! It's called f**king I'm old! That's why I look different!'" You go, girl!
