Transport To Italy This Summer With The Bronzy Aperol Spritz Makeup Trend

We'll never say no to a delicious Aperol Spritz on a warm summer's day. But the refreshing drink has taken on a whole new meaning with the arrival of the Aperol Spritz makeup trend. Inspired by the bright orange Italian cocktail, this aesthetic is all about embracing a warm, summery, bronze glow. And it's created using mainly orange, peach, and coral makeup shades.

You've probably seen this look all over TikTok — or BeautyTok, if you will — where Aperol makeup videos have racked up thousands of views in summer 2024. One video from @samanthaa.nicole attracted more than 235,000 views in just three days! But this trend was actually inspired by the same woman who gave us Sugar Plum Fairy makeup: Hailey Bieber

In a June 2024 interview with Glamour, Bieber discussed a bright coral blush from her Rhode makeup collection and said, "I want people to put it on and think, 'There's an Aperol Spritz.' Maybe that's it — it's Aperol Spritz makeup next!" And she was right. TikTokers took the term and ran with it. But while orange makeup can sound scary, we promise it isn't. To prove it, we're sharing our tips for how to do Aperol Spritz makeup, so you'll look like an Italian goddess in the Tuscan countryside. No passport required.

Keep your skin dewy

Aperol Spritz makeup is all about dewy skin, so steer clear of dull, matte foundations for that summer glow. A tinted moisturizer works well, as it won't take away your natural luminosity. For extra gleam, use liquid highlighter (gold shimmer would look gorgeous) on the high points of your cheeks. As celebrity makeup artist and beauty expert Jenna Garagiola explained to Women, the perfect blend of dewy and matte skin can also be achieved by only applying powder where your face gets greasy. Then, spritz (get it?) a dewy setting spray over the top.

Don't go too heavy with contour

The Aperol Spritz style isn't about going too crazy with contour. Hailey Bieber tends to keep hers light, so we should do the same. Apply a little liquid contour (for that dewy look!) in the hollows of your cheeks and either side of the forehead to add dimension. Then, dust a lighter powder bronzer over your nose and anywhere your face naturally catches the sun, like the middle of your forehead, for a tan look. You could even use a shimmery product here for extra radiance.

Find your perfect shade of orange blush

Orange blush is perfect for Aperol makeup, since it's a great color to make you appear more tan (just remember to go for a glow and avoid looking like a giant Cheeto). If you have cool skin undertones, try an orange blush with blue undertones. Those with warmer undertones will find warmer shades or coppers more flattering. Go in light and then build the blush up for the most natural look. If you don't have orange blush, peach or coral shades are great alternatives and will still give you a glow.

Commit to the Aperol look with bright eyeshadow

If you're feeling brave, go all out with a bright orange eyeshadow. Just avoid putting too much under the eye so your peepers don't look sore (not a good look). Go in with a light hand, too, because blending your shadow properly and building up the intensity will be your best friend here. You could even add some copper or peach tones for dimension. If you're just not feeling orange for your eyes though, use more wearable gold or bronze shimmers.

Nude or orange-toned lipstick works well

If you're over orange when you get to your lips, opt for nude lipstick. Many TikTokers keep their lips subtle to avoid their Aperol Spritz makeup looking overdone. But you can totally still do orange lipstick — just pay attention to your undertones. People with light skin should look for red or coral-leaning oranges. Dark skin? Try a bright tangerine color. If you fall in the middle, look for a hue that most closely matches an actual orange. As this makeup is all about luminosity, a warm lip-gloss with gold shimmer is the perfect finisher. Get that golden glow!
