Taylor Swift's Boldest Hair Looks Of All Time

Long, blonde locks and bangs may be Taylor Swift's signature look, but it's certainly not the only hair we've seen on Miss Americana throughout her multiple decades in the industry.

Swift's gorgeous natural curls were almost as famous as her music early on. But, as her star grew, so did her hair confidence, as she's embraced everything from extensions, to vibrant colors, to dramatic cuts.

Despite having access to the best hairdressers, Swift is not afraid to grab the scissors herself. In a since-deleted 2014 Instagram video, she revealed she'd cut her own hair — in front of multiple people. "This is how many people are watching me get a haircut right now... We don't do anything without an audience, do we?" she joked (via E! News). The star then uploaded a photo of her 'do, a mid-neck lob, to Facebook. "P.S. short hair, don't care. (!!!)," she wrote. But that chop was tame compared to some of Swift's other styles. To prove it, we're taking a walk down memory lane with her boldest ever hair looks (aka her "hella good hair").

The notorious 'coconut bob'

Long-time Swifties will remember the chaos that ensued when Swift appeared at the 2016 Grammys with a sleek, straight bob. The blunt look was unexpected and one of her shortest cuts ever. It inspired countless playful comparisons on X, previously known as Twitter, with fans likening her to everyone from Anna Wintour, to He-Man, to Cody Martin (played by Dylan Sprouse) in drag on "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody." The style was even dubbed the "coconut bob" after fans likened it to Coconut Head's hair from "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide."

The 'Bleachella' bob

2016 was a big year for dramatic Taylor Swift hair. She also covered Vogue with a shaggy, platinum blonde bob. The look was inspired by editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who told "Today" she gave Swift a rockstar makeover. Swift kept the color, wearing it at the Met Gala and Coachella (Swift wrote "Bleachella" in the caption of a since deleted Instagram photo from the festival). But don't expect her to bring it back. Swift told Elle in 2019 the hairstyle made her "cringe," and, we can't lie, the bold shade washed out her fair skin.

Her Bad Blood red hue

Taylor Swift showed us just how much she suits red hair in 2015. She donned a vibrant wig for her "Bad Blood" music video, which complimented Swift's favorite red lipstick and gave her a sassy edge. That wasn't the only time she's gone red, though. The "Cruel Summer" singer wore the hue in 2018 for the "Babe" music video with Sugarland and in 2021 for her "All Too Well: The Short Film." Swift with red locks is quite the fan-favorite look, as one Swiftie wrote on X, "Red hair Taylor is my weakness."

She went vintage brunette for Wildest Dreams

Taylor Swift went dark brunette in her 2016 "Wildest Dreams" music video. The star's look had a vintage, 1950s Hollywood feel, with shoulder length pin curls and a glam side part. Although it was a wig, Swift totally pulled it off alongside her classic red lip. Understandably, fans have barely been able to stop talking about this classic style since. "13 [year old] me was addicted to brunette 50s style Taylor in 'Wildest Dreams,' she looked ridiculously GORGEOUS," an X user shared in June 2024. She sure did.

Taylor Swift wowed with vibrant pink and blue streaks

Pink hair is a power move, so Taylor Swift must have felt extra powerful when she combined it with blue. Swift showed the vibrant streaks in an Instagram selfie in May 2020 and matched with daring pink eyeshadow and lipstick. Fans clearly loved seeing Miss Americana be "Fearless" with her hair, as the upload amassed over 3.4 million likes. Swift may well have done this look solo too, as she revealed on Apple Music that December she'd cut her own hair for months due to COVID restrictions. Multi-talented queen!
