Chappell Roan Is Stunning Without Her Dramatic Stage Makeup

When we think of Chappell Roan, three things spring to mind. First is her powerful voice, then her stunningly striking red locks and her dramatic stage makeup. Roan has carved out quite the niche when it comes to painting her face, taking inspiration from drag queens (who have paved the way for many a makeup trend), avant-garde aesthetics, and those who don't fit in — and don't want to. "Makeup is not just for making yourself feel more 'beautiful,'" her makeup artist Stephen Tull explained of the bold looks they create while speaking to Dazed in July 2024. "It's also for making yourself feel more confident and fearless."

But Roan is clearly just as confident and fearless without her stage makeup. Despite wearing such eye-catching performance looks, her fairly frequent makeup-free social media snaps confirm she's "HOT TO GO!" even without hours in the hair and makeup chair. The beauty has fluffy brows to die for, and she's one of the lucky ones with blemish-free, glowing skin. "Beauty isn't everything, it's the only thing," she told Vogue in July 2024. And these photos prove she has it naturally in spades.

In the same way that Taylor Swift cuddles up to her cats while makeup-free, animal lover Chappell Roan ditches the makeup while spending time with her four-legged friends. In an adorable August 2024 Instagram upload, she confirmed her complexion is just as flawless without foundation as she posed for the camera in vintage green framed glasses, showing off her gorgeous full brows. Her smooth skin glowed in the natural light and made her look years younger than her age (the beauty was 26 when the snap was taken!). Her followers certainly noticed her enviable complexion and were quick to heap on the praise. "Clearest skin I've ever seen," singer Victoria Canal commented.

Even when Chappell Roan isn't expressing herself via her makeup, she finds a way to inject personality into her looks. She did that when she posted a no makeup photo to Instagram in November 2023 while posing alongside fellow musician Eliza Petrosyan. Roan rocked a white captain's hat as she gave the camera a coy smile with her naturally pink lips pressed together. She let her long, curly red locks cascade down, and we don't see a single bag or dark circle under her eyes. In the comments, one fan joked of the sans cosmetics upload, "6th pic is Jack and rose from titanic."

Because Chappell Roan makes such a statement with her stage makeup, you'd be forgiven for thinking she'd be made up during interviews. But that's not the case. The singer did an on location interview with BRICKS magazine in June 2023 with a totally bare face, and she looked stunning. Roan and interviewer Rachelle Cox hit up a thrift store in London (we love a slow fashion queen), and she proved her eyes are still defined without heavy eyeliner and eyeshadow. Roan pulled her red hair back to really let her glowing skin show through, but let her locks flow down as she tried on outfits.

In February 2024, Chappell Roan proved exactly why her fans relate to her so much. The singer shared a super casual photo of herself with her Instagram followers as she enjoyed dinner and held up a smoothie. The makeup-free photo was sandwiched in between a selection of snaps, which the "Good Luck, Babe!" hitmaker posted to celebrate her 26th birthday. Again, her skin was literally spotless, her curls were on point, and we think she could have easily passed for a decade younger.

Chappell Roan was beautifully honest while posting a no-makeup photo on Instagram in May 2023. "I am very hard on my body image and feel like no matter what weight or how 'toned' I am, it simply isn't enough," she captioned it. "I'm working through it the best I can." Within the batch upload were two snaps of her without makeup, holding a Guinea pig. She pursed her lips and showed a little redness on her cheeks which gave her a youthful glow. "[Chappell] you are stunning girl? Body, face, soul and talent, don't doubt it a second," one fan told her in the comments.
