Lady Gaga's Most Harley Quinn-Esque Looks Of All Time

If anyone was born to play Harley Quinn (or Lee Quinzel, if you will), it's Lady Gaga. Long before her portrayal of the iconic DC character in "Joker: Folie à Deux," Gaga was essentially a real-life Quinn herself, frequently wearing daring garb that wouldn't look out of place in a comic book.

With the release of the film, Harley Quinn is one of the most popular celeb-inspired Halloween costumes for 2024. However, Gaga didn't just throw on an outfit for the cameras to become Quinn, as she felt a personal connection to the persona. "Harley Quinn is a character people know from the ether of pop culture. I had a different experience creating her, namely my experience with mania and chaos inside — for me, it creates a quietness," she explained to Vogue in October. The singer and actor was so close to Quinn that the movie's cinematographer Lawrence Sher shared on "The Trenches Talk" in July 2023 that Gaga (whose real name is Stefani Germanotta) only wanted to be called the character's name while filming. "The [assistant director] at one point said, 'Oh, you know, Stef would like if you just called her Lee on set.' And I was like, 'Oh, 100 percent.' And the next thing I said was something 'Lee,' and it was like everything changed," he recalled. That kinship clearly ran deep as Gaga, knowingly or otherwise, has worn several Quinn-esque looks that still felt authentic to her style. And those audacious, sexy, and feisty looks were on display both before and after she played the role.

She did full-on harlequin for Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Lady Gaga appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in October 2024 in a full-on harlequin inspired dress. It featured a ruffle collar and layered, frayed edge skirt. The vintage, faded look of the material leaned into the traditional jester aesthetic, while her lace white tights seemingly tapped into Harley Quinn's delicate state of mind. The pink diamond shapes and polka dots on the skirt added an unexpected and fun feminine touch. The custom Muto Little piece also had a clown-like feel, which may have been a nod to how Lee Quinzel isn't always taken seriously and the way her struggles become entertainment to The Joker.

Lady Gaga showed multiple harlequin personalities in her listening party look

During a visit to London for a "Harlequin" listening party (the album that accompanied "Joker: Folie à Deux") in September 2024, Lady Gaga gave us a look that exuded pure Harley Quinn energy. Her unique, colorful bodysuit and matching stockings were covered with printed faces cut into harlequin-inspired diamond shapes. We're willing to believe the pieces represented the character's multi-faceted persona and rapidly changing moods. Quinn is also famous for her unkempt, ripped garments, which Gaga incorporated via holey red thigh warmers. The star's impossibly high, silvery glitter platform heels added glamor and whimsy, as the flashy pieces, just like Quinn, were anything but demure.

She gave Harley Quinn core at a club

More than a decade before playing Harley Quinn, Lady Gaga served a look at a club in Sydney, Australia, in July 2011 that we could totally see on the comic book character. She embodied Quinn's gaudy aesthetic in a purple pleather mini dress, plunging black bra, chunky waist belt, multi-pattern colorful jacket, sheer black gloves, and knee-high boots. And if that wasn't already bold enough, she accessorized with a mint green wig (Quinn is well-known for her bold tresses), daring red lipstick, dark sunglasses, and a black service cap. This outfit would be totally overwhelming on someone without the confidence to pull it off. On Gaga though, the pieces create a sexy, fearless, and feisty outfit we could imagine in the wardrobe of Margot Robbie's Quinn.

Lady Gaga served modern rocker harlequin on the streets of New York City

In October 2023, Lady Gaga was spotted in the Big Apple wearing a modern harlequin-esque jumpsuit that put a glam rocker twist on the "Joker" aesthetic. Her flared-pant one-piece featured black sequins down one side and a deep pink, diamond pattern on the other. The super sexy, daring plunge was totally Harley Quinn, while Gaga's shaggy blond 'do, black nail polish (which we love as an adult staple), and shiny silver scarf matched the DC icon's grungy style. Not only was this look Quinn-core, it was modern, as sequins were totally on trend at the time.

Her stripes and diamond-print outfit was unexpected and daring

In September 2024, a redheaded Lady Gaga gave us Harley Quinn vibes in London with more than just her harlequin-inspired makeup. In addition to her bold blue eyeshadow and red lips, she wore a vintage-looking navy blue and cream striped dress. The shorter skirt was in tune with the character's sexy and flirty wardrobe, while the balloon sleeves added quirkiness, making the ensemble adventurous and fashion-forward. It was the black-and-white diamond print tights with chunky black heels that really made this ensemble harlequin. The classic pattern added an unexpected mix of prints and dialled up the eccentricity in the most Harley Quinn way.
