5 Glinda-Coded Outfits Ariana Grande Has Worn Promoting Wicked
Ever since Ariana Grande was confirmed for the role of Glinda in the "Wicked" movie adaptation, we've been ridiculously excited. Not only to see the two-part movie, but to admire Grande's Glinda-inspired fashion on the promo trail. The Good Witch has an uber-feminine, soft, and dainty wardrobe in the stage show and mainly wears girlie pinks and sparkly pastels.
Luckily for us, much like Lady Gaga dressed as her inner Harley Quinn to spread the word about "Joker: Folie à Deux," Grande took Glinda to heart — and her wardrobe. The "We Can't Be Friends" hitmaker got so into the aesthetic that she wore Glinda-coded outfits even when she wasn't promoting the musical movie. "I'm channeling Glinda today," she told British Vogue in September 2024 while discussing her makeup line, R.E.M. "Pink was never really a part of my life until I started collecting a lot of pink pieces during the audition process three years ago," she explained. "...Now I love the color pink and it feels like part of me. I think it's something I'll be forever intertwined with in a very special way." And "Thank Goodness," because Grande's delicate Glinda-coded outfits have been jaw-dropping (even that divisive puffy pink gown that landed her on the 2024 Oscars worst dressed list).
Her textured Balenciaga gown could have come straight from the Wicked costume department
In February 2024, Ariana Grande started getting fans excited for "Wicked." She posted a shot of herself, which appeared to be taken on set, on Instagram while wearing high-fashion in a strapless, textured Balenciaga gown that could have been plucked straight from Glinda's wardrobe. The adorable pink bow around her waist showed off her figure and balanced the bold texture, while the addition of delicate, white tights and matching heels was totally "Wicked"-coded. And fans noticed. "Dear [Glinda], you look just TOO good," one person commented. Agreed.
Her strapless flower CinemaCon dress fit right in with Glinda's wardrobe
In April, Ariana Grande wore an uber-feminine, strapless pink mini dress to CinemaCon that looked like a large flower. The yellow center added more fun to the youthful dress, while the layered petals gave it flattering movement. Grande kept Glinda's favorite color scheme alive with baby pink nails (a hot mani color that summer thanks to fellow pop star Sabrina Carpenter) and white, pointed-toe heels (which made a trendy comeback in 2023). The ensemble made for a fun, modern take on her character's feminine fashion.
She brought Glinda's magic to the Met Gala
In May, Ariana Grande attended the 2024 Met Gala in another outfit that got us talking about the "Wicked" movie adaptation. In the stage production, Glinda wears a ruffled light blue gown. Grande wears a similar, stunning strapless white dress in the movie's trailer. Both are somewhat similar to this look, but Grande actually took inspo from The Good Witch's magic. Speaking to Vogue, she explained, "I loved the tie-in of the opalescence of the little hues of pink and green, of course, for Glinda's bubble for 'Wicked.'"
Ariana Grande served vintage Glinda at the Olympics
Ariana Grande repped "Wicked" alongside her co-star Cynthia Erivo at the July opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in another classically feminine pink gown. The custom Thom Browne dress represented Grande and her character's classic sophistication, with a hem that finished at the ankle to show her quirky, wingtip-inspired pink and white heels. She accessorized with matching white gloves and a hair bow, which added to the vintage aesthetic. After Grande shared snaps from the event on Instagram, one fan even commented, "Look! [It's] Glinda!"
Ariana Grande wore a deeper Wicked-coded pink on SNL
When Ariana Grande appeared on "Saturday Night Live" to promote "Wicked" in October, Glinda's pink passion still wasn't far from her mind. Grande wore a vintage Thierry Mugler strapless satin dress with matching heels. The garment was reminiscent of the frilly pink number Kristin Chenoweth wore as Glinda on Broadway, but more understated and classic. We love that Grande kept her accessories minimal to avoid the ensemble looking too much like a costume, as she hosted the long-running NBC series as a star in her own right.
