The 20 Best Premiere Looks On 2024 Red Carpets

So many epic TV shows and movies were released in 2024, and lucky for us, those big entertainment drops meant massive fashion moments. We saw Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo dominate red carpets around the world at various "Wicked" premieres, serving high-fashion moments that were nothing short of "Wonderful." 

Jennifer Lopez, meanwhile, transformed her style post-divorce with some equally jaw-dropping ensembles as she promoted "Unstoppable," and Blake Lively continued her enviable style transformation in chic pieces that paid tribute to iconic female figures. The year was so jam-packed with hot premiere outfits we had to round them up and crown the very best, with the likes of Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, and Brad Pitt also sashaying down the red carpet and straight into our fashion hearts.

Halle Berry looked gorgeous when she walked the red carpet for the "Never Let Go" world premiere in September. She was every inch the movie star in her Tamara Ralph dress, which featured crystal mesh in a range of browns and neutrals — a massive color trend in 2024. The colors complimented her warm skin tone, and the chunky gold chain at the neck added edgy glam and showed off her toned arms. Berry stood out from the crowd in the best way, as she should as the star of the movie!

When Ayo Edebiri hit the Los Angeles premiere of "Inside Out 2," she thought outside the box, but retained her polished style. Edebiri's classy pastel blue pieces included a button-down shirt, matching blazer, and cropped pants that felt dressy yet comfortable for the June event. She added peep-toe slingback heels that didn't distract from her polished aesthetic and leaned further into summer's business casual trend. The menswear-inspired garb made a statement and showed us why red carpets don't have to be all about dresses and skirts, while the light shade was fun for summer and appropriate for a kids' movie. The actor and comedian also made a case for why monochrome outfits aren't just for lazy days.

Blake Lively stepped out in July in a red hot, curve-hugging jumpsuit to support her husband Ryan Reynolds and his co-star Hugh Jackman at the world premiere of their Marvel movie, "Deadpool & Wolverine." The Atelier Versace one-piece included gloves and foot pieces, with stunning, ornate embellishments on each side of her body for a seductive and vampy vibe. 

The off-the-shoulder number fit her penchant for feminine garments but gave an obvious nod to her husband's iconic superhero suit in an authentic, not gimmicky, way. Seeing as Lively doesn't work with a stylist, this pick felt personal and inspired.

For the March premiere of "Immaculate," Sydney Sweeney served a gorgeous androgynous ensemble that fit her penchant for changing up her fashion vibe. Though the "Anyone But You" star often opts for super sexy silhouettes, she turned up the edge this time in super long, baggy black pants and an avant-garde top that looked like hands holding a bouquet. The white top brought femininity in a different way than we're used to seeing from her, contrasting with her slicked back 'do and bolstering her status as a fashionista.

"I honestly just vibe with whatever event's going on. It's always a little bit different. That's the fun thing about all of this, it's like playing dress-up," Sweeney told People just a few days earlier. "It's boring to do the same thing over and over again," she added. Sweeney's getup was anything but boring.

Dwayne Johnson's interesting fashion choices throughout the year landed him on our worst dressed celebs list, but he did have at least one standout moment. The Rock appeared in London for "Moana 2" in an outfit that brought some sunshine to a dreary November day without looking out of place. His black jacket, top, and pants worked for the cool season, but the embroidered turquoise palm trees fit with the Disney movie's tropical aesthetic and his California roots. The actor expertly toed the line between polished and comfortable while avoiding a classic suit, which may have felt too stuffy for a children's movie premiere.

Zendaya is another celebrity who made a lot of noise in the fashion world in 2024, and her first appearance on our list comes courtesy of her daring co-ord at the French premiere of "Dune: Part Two" in February. The actor ditched a dress in favor of a bold Louis Vuitton copper print crop top with a snood-like collar, paired with a matching oversized skirt that highlighted her bare torso. 

Zendaya's It Girl energy helped her pull off the baggy silhouette, which could have overwhelmed a less confident star's figure. The neutral tones were a perfect match for the sandy, dusty aesthetic of the movie and she kept her accessories simple and locks slicked back so they didn't outshine the daring outfit. This fashion risk? It totally paid off.

Nicola Coughlan gave us main character energy in Toronto for the premiere of "Bridgerton" Season 3, Part 2 in June. The Irish beauty had fun with fashion in a strapless Sara Mrad mini dress made of ethereal shiny lavender material that looked like waves. But Coughlan decided more was more, and the real drama came from her fabulously over-the-top, romantic red satin coat that mimicked a bunch of roses and stretched down the red carpet. Coughlan added studded clear heels, which were simple but still packed a punch for her big moment. And fans, like us, couldn't get enough. "The look was serving!" one person commented on Coughlan's Instagram. "Babes, you are killing the fashion game," another wrote.

Jennifer Lopez's LA "Wicked" dress marked one of her biggest style wins in a while. J.Lo flashed her toned torso and legs in the Zuhair Murad dress, with elegant-yet-sexy stomach cut-outs and high slit. The beige fabric was so close to her skin tone it may have been her way of taking on the sheer dress trend in 2024. The brown, orange, and pink embellishments brought extra warmth to her skin, and Lopez stood out without being too overdone, appropriate since she didn't star in the most talked-about movie of the year.

Zendaya's breathtaking black and light pink ballgown for the April "Challengers" premiere in LA showed exactly why she's such a fashion chameleon. Zendaya changed up her style from her "Dune: Part Two" promo trail looks, opting for a more cosmopolitan Vera Wang gown with an exaggerated skirt that tapped into the movie's romantic storyline. Yet, the sexy, lingerie-inspired top represented the project (and Zendaya's) darker, provocative side. Unsurprisingly, the edgy, yet still classic gown caused quite the stir. "Her dress OMG," one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, while another commented, "She looks elegant."

Lupita Nyong'o hit up the June premiere for "A Quiet Place: Day One" wearing a black, sequin, off-the-shoulder jumpsuit that served one piece vibes with a subtle skirt. The sophisticated number was slick and sexy, while the satin material over her hips and long train gave it an edgy twist. She added trendy pointed-toe heels in gunmetal grey to make the look even more modern, while her bright silver jewelry added an extra layer of glam that was perfect for such a huge movie star.

Dressing for the red carpet in a way that feels exciting can be tough for men, but Brad Pitt gave us a masterclass in the concept when he wore a beige two-piece in Los Angeles to promote "Wolfs." The suit was slouchy but well-tailored, and, paired with his cream loafers, gave a laid-back, effortless vibe that was perfect for September in California. His debonair aviator shades added swag and his partially unbuttoned white shirt felt casual but still put together, mirroring his (and his character's) cool guy vibes.

Lady Gaga has worn multiple Harley Quinn-esque looks before, but she went full-on Gotham while promoting her return to the big screen in "Joker: Folie à Deux." The star rocked a series of eccentric ensembles on the promo trail, but her standout ensemble had to be her red Celine gown at the London premiere in September. The dress was surprisingly classic and Old Hollywood-esque for the out-there star, cementing her role as a fashion icon. But this is Lady Gaga, so she added a quirky super high shoulder jacket to make a statement and blend quirky glamor with avant-garde. She also wore heavy, smudged blue eyeshadow to represent her character, Lee Quinzel.

In October, Selena Gomez gave us a heavy dose of nostalgia at the world premiere of the "Wizards of Waverly Place" spin-off. Gomez seemed happy and healthy in a Rodarte dress that looked like a grown-up version of a halter-neck dress she wore to the 2015 American Music Awards. 

The scarlet sequins had an air of magic and mystery about them (perfect for the wizarding series that started her career) and the shiny lapels made a bold statement without being over the top. This classy look reminded us just how far Gomez has come since she starred in the Disney Channel series, representing the beauty's transformation from a talented teen to an inspirational woman.

Joey King is another former child star who showed us she's all grown up in 2024. King appeared at the French premiere of "Despicable Me 4" in June in a mini dress that was ideal for the kid-friendly event but didn't come across as juvenile. The stunning Oscar De La Renta pink gown threw it back to 2023's mermaidcore summer, but in a more up-to-date way, making her look young yet sophisticated. King also injected more personality into the ensemble with her unexpected yellow and gold shoes, which proved she wasn't afraid to do something different and have fun with fashion. 

Ariana Grande rocked several Glinda-coded outfits on the "Wicked" promo trail, but she surprised us when she abandoned pink for the European premiere in November. The "Dangerous Woman" hitmaker kept her character's delicate and feminine aesthetic alive in a yellow, tulle, Ralph Lauren ballgown, which gave a nod to the movie's yellow brick road. The gown fit perfectly without overwhelming her small frame, and her simple yet glam silver jewelry made her look like a real-life princess and total movie star.

At the New York premiere for "Transformers One," Chris Hemsworth deviated from the classic black suit and tie in a suave way. He wore a light gray two-piece with a white shirt, long gold chains, and black shoes, which worked as a transitional outfit combining summer and fall pieces.

 The tailored jacket was flattering without making the actor appear too bulky (which can be tough for someone so ripped) and the matching ensemble felt authentic to his laid-back, Australian vibe, while still formal enough for a red carpet. Light neutral suits were hot for summer 2024 too, which proved Hemsworth knew how to make a trend work for him.

Hailee Steinfeld was impossibly stunning on the red carpet in Los Angeles for the premiere of "Arcane" Season 2. The black and gold New Arrivals by İlkyaz Özel dress mixed minimalist lines with maximalist glam, showing Steinfeld's decolletage and toned middle on either side of the large sequins over her chest. 

The long skirt and sleeves balanced out the skin on show to keep the look sophisticated and elegant. Her October ensemble fit with the show's modern, futuristic vibe, and cemented her place as one of the most fashion-forward stars in the game. "This is definitely one of the top Hailee's outfits ever," one fan commented on her Instagram photo from the event. A second wrote, "Wow! So grown up and elegant looking!!"

Blake Lively's second appearance on our list came courtesy of her enviable ability to make vintage look new again. In August, Lively created a media firestorm when she wore the same Versace dress Britney Spears had slipped into 22 years earlier. The gown's yellow, purple, and blue sequins over a nude overlay fit perfectly with Lively's chic, glam style, but also had an important message. 

Lively used her appearance at the New York "It Ends With Us" premiere to shine a light on how much Spears had inspired her. "To see a woman who works so hard and against such extraordinary circumstances, and is telling her story and authoring her story ... As a millennial girl, Britney was the ultimate reason you want to sparkle and shine," Lively told Entertainment Tonight.

"Love everything about this and she's just so eloquently spoken about Britney and how it relates to the themes in her movie," one person commented on Instagram. "Sisterhood of the travelling Versace dress," another wrote, referring to Lively's early movie "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants."

Ariana Grande's many "Wicked"-inspired looks were too stunning to only feature once on our list. In November, she served her ultimate Glinda ensemble for the Australian premiere in an enchanting, custom Vivienne Westwood number. It could easily have looked like the actor and singer came straight from the set, but Grande's confidence and authentic connection to the character stopped the voluminous gown from feeling like a costume. 

The blush pink color was perfect for her skin tone and light hair, and the oversized tulle sleeves, embellishments, and drop waist once again gave her princess vibes. The star added a butterfly choker to mirror the magic and whimsy of the movie, and pulled her hair back to allow the gorgeous 'fit to have its moment.

"Pink was never really a part of my life until I started collecting a lot of pink pieces during the audition process three years ago," Grande told British Vogue in September 2024. "I just wanted to live in the DNA and mindset of the character. Now I love the color pink and it feels like part of me. I think it's something I'll be forever intertwined with in a very special way," she added.

Both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo wore stunning "Wicked"-inspired garments to talk about the movie, but our ultimate pick for the best premiere look of 2024 has to be Erivo's custom Louis Vuitton dress at the Los Angeles premiere. The floor-length vinyl number fit her body like a glove and paid touching tribute to her green-skinned character, Elphaba. 

The shiny fabric, spaghetti straps, and torso cut-outs were super modern, and she added even more edge with a fringed wrap that made it clear she was the star of the show. Erivo doubled down on her main character energy with a stunning silver necklace with an emerald stone (a nod to The Emerald City). Her bold earrings and nose rings ensured she was still expressing herself, not just channelling Elphaba.

"The LA carpet [look] for me is a such a wow factor — the color, the fabric. It just feels electric — [it lets] my character truly own the color green in such big, bold way," Erivo told Vogue in November 2024. "I thought the fabric choice was strong and divine, which is how I see my character," she added. And that's exactly how we see fashion queen Erivo.

In determining the best red carpet premiere looks of the year, we looked at appearances for TV and movie premieres between January 1, 2024 and December 3, 2024. We ranked each outfit based on how true the celebrity stayed to their own style, how polished and tailored their garments were, and if they paid attention to trends. We also considered how well each outfit fit with the theme or aesthetic of the project they were supporting.
