The Most Embarrassing Celeb Makeup Fails Of 2024
Celebrities have access to the best makeup artists and cosmetics in the world, but that doesn't necessarily mean they always get it right. Whether it's too much foundation, misplaced blush, or uneven brows, they're just as predisposed to a beauty fail as us mere mortals. Even Kate Middleton has messed up her makeup at times. But because celebs are more likely to have camera flashes on them as soon as they leave the house, their beauty mistakes naturally stand out more than others.
Even in 2024, some famous faces are still falling victim to embarrassing makeup fails, which can be totally aging. We're breaking them down and explaining how to sidestep these embarrassing beauty accidents.
Melania Trump's smoky eye needed more blending
The Trump women aren't strangers to makeup mistakes and Melania Trump proved why in October during an appearance on Fox News. Trump's dark gray and black eyeshadow looked hastily applied and didn't taper out in a flattering way to lift her face and define her eyes. Instead, it ended abruptly and left a harsh line on her eyelids, which came across as unnatural. The shadow could have been softened by applying a light brown shade with a fluffy blending brush between her lid and brow bone.
Donald Trump had a foundation disaster
Makeup mistakes clearly run in the Trump family, as Melania Trump's husband Donald Trump also had a blunder in October. At a Remembrance Event, the former president didn't cover his entire face with foundation, leaving him with a pale patch that ran from the side of his forehead down to his ear. The world certainly noticed the blunder, as one person wrote on X/Twitter, "DT should hire another makeup artist!" This mistake could have been prevented if he'd chosen a foundation that better matched his skin tone or if he'd blended it into his hairline.
Ariana Grande's contour looked muddy
Ariana Grande appeared at the Olympic Games in July sporting a makeup faux pas. The beauty's contour looked muddy and unblended, making her cheeks appear dirty rather than sculpted. The deep brown shade was too dark for her foundation and Grande needed more blush to warm up her complexion and diffuse the harsh contour. It's a good idea to apply bronzer products last (many people use bronzer for contouring) to stop it looking patchy or being smudged by other cosmetics.
Garcelle Beauvais' bright red brows weren't flattering
Garcelle Beauvais' brows at the 2024 People's Choice Awards in February just didn't work. "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star colored them the exact same bright red as her locks, which made them lack definition. Brows can be hard to get right, but it most flattering to have them one to two shades darker than your head hair to allow them to shape the face and accentuate the eyes. Thankfully, Beauvais learned her lesson, as she's sported far more natural looking brown brows since.
Kimberly Guilfoyle experienced blush blindness
In February, Kimberly Guilfoyle demonstrated blush blindness when she wore a bold, bright pink shade on "The Kimberly Guilfoyle Show" that was totally distracting. Though the color worked with her cool toned eyeshadow and light pink lipstick, she needed a lighter hand and more complimentary the placement. The blush didn't match both sides as it appeared more vivid and closer to her nose on her right cheek. A tapered brush (such as e.l.f.'s Angled Blush Brush or Laura Geller's Angled Blush Brush) can help achieve a more even application.
Taylor Swift's metallic freckles distracted from her beauty
Taylor Swift's makeup usually looks flawless, so we were disappointed to see her wear metallic freckles for a Kansas City Chiefs vs. New Orleans Saints game in October. We can't blame her for trying something different, but the shine captured by paparazzi flashes distracted from her natural beauty and the dots were too overwhelming with her signature red lips and heavy liner. The makeup accessory also felt out of place for a casual sports game and would have made more sense on the red carpet.
