6 Celebs That Got Engaged On Valentine's Day (& Didn't Make Us Cringe)
There are several celebrity couples we hope get engaged in 2025 (Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, we're looking at you) and Valentine's Day could be the perfect day for our fave couples to put a ring on it. According to Drive Research, 6 million people worldwide get engaged on the most romantic day of the year, with Legacy Box reporting 220,000 of those proposals happen in the U.S.
But any celeb who gets down on one knee or finds themselves with a ring on their finger on February 14 won't be alone. Many famous faces have become betrothed under Cupid's watchful eye, including "Summer House" star Hannah Berner and Des Bishop. The reality star became a fiancée in 2021, telling People, "On Valentine's Day, I woke up and I had a video of him singing, which I hadn't gotten since the summer. And then it ends with him being like, 'I have a surprise for you.'" Berner joked she wasn't looking her best so early in the morning, but recalled, "He's just kneeling on the side, and then he just pulls out the ring. I think I just made weird crying noises." Adorable!
Although some Valentine's Day proposals can be a little cringe, Bishop isn't the only one who sweetly popped the question on V-Day. Celebs like Orlando Bloom, Jason Owens, and Tyler Posey also took the big step in a cute, non-cringy way.
Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney
Before Lady Gaga got engaged to Michael Polansky in 2024, she was set to tie the knot with "Chicago Fire" star Taylor Kinney. The actor proposed on February 14, 2015, with Lady Gaga confirming the news on Instagram. The singer posted a black-and-white photo of her hand in his, wearing a huge heart-shaped engagement ring on that special finger. "He gave me his heart on Valentine's Day, and I said YES!" the "Bad Romance" singer captioned the shot.
"The stone is big and quite beautiful ... It's a challenge to get an excellent heart shape with perfections — the shoulders of the gem have to be totally symmetrical; Lady Gaga's is all that," Lorraine Schwartz, who designed the Valentine's Day appropriate jewelry, told InStyle. It's no surprise then that Yates & Co. Jewelers speculated the ring could be worth as much as $500,000.
But, sadly, this now-former couple didn't go the distance, as Lady Gaga and Kinney broke off their engagement in 2016. The news was confirmed shortly after she was photographed without her sparkler.
Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens
Jonathan Owens chose Valentine's Day 2022 to propose to gymnast Simone Biles, around two years after their romance went public. The football player confirmed their happy news on February 15, 2022, posting a series of photos on Instagram that showed him down on one knee followed by her excited reaction. "Woke up this morning with a fiancée," he captioned the images. Biles also posted sweet snaps from the moment he proposed outdoors on her Instagram. "THE EASIEST YES," she wrote in all caps. "I can't wait to spend forever & ever with you, you're everything I dreamed of and more! let's get married FIANCÉ."
The happy couple sat down with "Today" later that month and the Olympic athlete with stunning off-field style shared how much she loved her ring and the proposal, which was sans cringe. "It's definitely my most prized possession now and I'm always wearing it ... it definitely beats a gold medal," she gushed of the three-carat diamond jewelry.
The athletes celebrated their love with two weddings. They originally tied the knot in a more understated ceremony at the courthouse in April 2023 but had a bigger, destination wedding the following month.
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom
Saint Valentine looked down on Orlando Bloom when he chose the special day to ask Katy Perry to marry him. Perry confirmed the news on Instagram on February 15, 2019, posting a photo cozying up to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor. Perry proudly showed her ruby jewelry — which E! News claimed could be worth $5 million and is perfect for those who think traditional diamond engagement rings are old-fashioned — with a ceiling full of heart-shaped balloons above them. "Full bloom," she captioned the upload. A source told People that Bloom had spent a lot of time planning the proposal, sharing, "He wanted it all to be special." They added it was a surprise for the "Women's World" hitmaker, noting, "Katy was very surprised and shaking with happiness."
The two had a long engagement after the love day proposal and still hadn't tied the knot as of January 2025. Perry explained on "Heart Breakfast" in 2024 that they'd planned their wedding but had to delay it because of COVID-19. "Now I have a really large credit at a venue I'm going to use. I just can't tell you more," she said. "It was literally, like, I was going to get married on February 27th of 2020 and then it all happened."
Tyler Posey and Phem
In 2023, Tyler Posey asked singer Phem to marry him while taking part in their annual Valentine's Day tradition. The "Teen Wolf" star told People he proposed in the romantic California spot they spend every February 14, stating, "It only felt perfect to do it there." Phem shared a few more details about the special and authentic moment, adding, "It was just us alone on the beach. I should've known when he propped his phone up on a rock to film that something was up ... but I had no idea." The "Maid In Manhattan" actor kept the move a total surprise for his girlfriend of two years and even secretly designed the custom ring without her knowing.
Posey and Phem didn't waste much time tying the knot after the romantic moment. By October 2023, they were walking down the aisle in front of famous guests including Avril Lavigne. "[Marriage] is the ultimate commitment you can only grow from," Phem told People.
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart
People confirmed in 2009 that Harrison Ford had selected Valentine's Day as the perfect time to propose to Calista Flockhart after more than seven years together. Insiders revealed he asked Flockhart to marry him during a family vacation. The private couple didn't speak much publicly about their nuptials or the surprise proposal — which limited the cringe factor — and married in June 2010.
In 2024, the former "Ally McBeal" star opened up about their relationship on "Live with Kelly and Mark." "You bring out the soft, puppy-dog side of Harrison Ford that we mortals might not necessarily know is there," Ripa told her, to which Flockhart joked, "He's afraid of me. I'm just saying." But the private star showed a more serious side when she spoke about the "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" star being honored at the Critic's Choice Awards. "I feel very proud of him and happy for him," she said.
