Previously Outdated Trends That Are Coming Back With A Vengeance In 2025

If the revival of Y2K fashion has taught us anything, it's that trends are cyclical. And that's no different in 2025. We're forecasting a host of previously outdated items to be at the forefront of our closets again, with the likes of boho pieces and even (gasp!) Uggs back at the top of our wish lists.

One of the most notable returning fashions will be textured or faux fur footwear. Dejeuné Harris, lead stylist and founder of Your Style Is Forever, exclusively told us the loud shoes we loved in the 2010s will be one of the hottest footwear trends of 2025, as the simplicity-focused and understated aesthetics fade. "Consumers are becoming more aware and involved in cultivating their personal style," she explained, sharing many are moving away from mass movements, such as the clean girl aesthetic, for looks that feels more authentic. But out there footwear isn't the only garment back with a vengeance for 2025 (or 2020-vibe, if you will) as more individualistic and personalized dressing takes over.

Customization via patches and brooches will be huge

We saw a lot of upscaling happen in the 1980s and 1990s, when buttons, patches, and tie-dye were hot commodities — and 2025 will bring that creativity back. "The motto 'more is more' reigns supreme, encouraging bold combinations of designer patches and statement pins on everything from jackets to handbags," Allie Pellerano-Rendón, CEO and co-founder of The Collection Atelier, exclusively told Women. "Schiaparelli has breathed new life into the concept of brooches, elevating them to wearable art status with their surrealist designs, while Bode continues to champion the patch movement with their distinctive storytelling approach," she added.

To make this return feel authentic and modern, try getting creative with pieces that mean something to you and mixing them with other modern trends. That could mean attaching a grandparent's brooch to your favorite western-wear jacket (because the Western trend isn't going anywhere in 2025), or giving old jeans new life in a sustainable way by sewing on new patches. Just remember there's no right or wrong way to customize. "[Know] you can easily adapt or remove them as styles evolve," Pellerano-Rendón said.

Paisley print is back (in a modern way)

Paisley prints were hot in the 1970s and we can expect the vintage pattern to be one of the most popular for 2025. Don't believe us? Just ask Beyoncé. She was dressed in head-to-toe paisley in a July 2024 Instagram video, rocking a button-down, blue and white, western-inspired jumpsuit with a cowboy hat. "This classic pattern has been reimagined on the runways of Saint Laurent, Etro, and Isabel Marant, taking on a more sophisticated edge," Allie Pellerano-Rendón told us.

To keep things modern, Pellerano-Rendón suggests opting for dark, dramatic colors rather than the bright shades that dominated decades earlier. That's how the "Texas Hold 'Em" hitmaker kept her outfit current (because you know Queen Bey is always ahead of a trend). "Style your paisley pieces with oversized denim jackets or statement leather boots for a contemporary twist on this timeless motif," Pellerano-Rendón added.

Ugg boots have made a resurgence

Just when we thought we'd seen the end of the cozy shoe we couldn't get enough of in the late 2000s, they're back in a major way with plenty of celebs co-signing the unexpected Ugg return. Fashion forward siblings Gigi and Bella Hadid have been spotted in the chunky shoe, as has Jennifer Lopez. And that's all the proof we need that the once super outdated shoe is popular again.

But the trio's footwear choice had one thing in common — though tall, boot-style Uggs with a thin sole dominated the early aughts, the popular design for 2025 is the chunky, platform boot. The Hadid sisters rocked shorter versions in 2024, so if you want to be bang on trend, try the UGG Women's Disquette Slipper or the UGG Women's Classic Ultra Mini New Heights Fashion Boot.

Boho vibes are trendy again

Someone call Nicole Richie, because the laid back, bohemian vibe that reigned supreme from the early to mid-2000s is officially back for 2025. Think flowy maxi dresses, vibrant patterns, and oversized sunglasses with layered jewelry (especially chunky, wooden bracelets) that create an earthy, hippie-esque outfit.

According to Dejeuné Harris, founder of Your Style Is Forever, we're re-embracing boho styles and turning our backs on flash in the pan fashion movements — such as the mob wife aesthetic that went viral on TikTok in 2024 — to focus on more authentic dressing. "On a deeper level, I believe the manufactured concepts of style are leaving, and people want to get back to feeling in love with their wardrobes and developing their personal style," she told us. "The early 2000s trends reflected a culture and an expression of living free, and I feel that people want to embody that feeling now," she added.

Peep toe heels are hot again in 2025

Pedis at the ready, because peep toe heels are back! Allie Pellerano-Rendón told us they'll be one of the hottest shoe style of 2025, with several major brands bringing back the nightclub staple from the early 2010s. "Luxury houses like Prada are diving into their archives, reimagining this iconic style for a new generation. The trend dominated Spring/Summer 2025 runways, with interpretations from Khaite, Tory Burch, and Acne Studios leading the charge," she explained. Remember though, there's a difference between open toe heels and peep toes. Open toes tend to show all five toes, while peeps only show part of one or two.

While you can totally dig deep in the back of your closet and pull out that old, patent black Forever 21 pair we all seemed to own, 2025 has a twist on the classic. If you're buying new, try a square toe version for a modern upgrade.
