Taylor Swift's 2025 Grammys Dress Missed The Mark For One Big Reason
Taylor Swift has a few outfits that didn't work in her past, but she doesn't get it wrong often. At the 2025 Grammys though, fans noticed she polished up real ... ice. The "Look What You Made Me Do" hitmaker strut her stuff in a one-shoulder, sparkly, red, custom Vivienne Westwood mini dress, complete with matching open-toe heels. She even added a fun chain with a dangling "T" charm across her leg (as if she'd written T on her upper thigh, if you know you know). But her dress missed the mark for one big reason, as she served Michelle Kwan realness over sophisticated goddess.
Social media users were quick to share their two cents on the flirty outfit choice, claiming it was better suited for the ice rink than a formal event. "The way Taylor Swift can make Vivienne Westwood and Schiaparelli look extremely BASIC, like any figure skating or prom dress is definitely her biggest TALENT," tweeted fashion commentator La Mode Unknown. "Taylor Swift looked like she was ready to go out and compete in a skating competition," another X, formerly known as Twitter, user wrote. "Taylor Swift is dressed like a ice skater," a third fan noted. Though the red-hot number worked with Swift's favorite signature red lip and complimented her skin tone and deep blond hair, the length, structured bodice, sparkles, and draping didn't help take it off the ice and onto the red carpet.
Taylor Swift's Grammy look may have worked with different hair
While several Swifties were focused on Taylor Swift's dress, others were fixated in her hair. Swift, who looks totally different without bangs, kept her signature wavy style simple and pushed her tresses behind her shoulders, which had some X users begging her to try something different. "Taylor Swift's bangs ruined the entire outfit for me. Also from the side, it looks like a figure skating outfit. But I would've let that slide if her hair wasn't so... Second grade picture day," one person commented. "Red is pretty on her, but that hair... the minimal accessories, girl. Fire your stylist," another wrote.
We understand why the "Karma" singer wanted to push her hair back so it didn't off-set the one-shoulder design, but poker straight tresses and a slightly wispier, blunter bang (a la her 2012 Billboard Music Awards style) would've made the vibe more modern and less ice capades. We'd also have liked to see the star add gold accessories to dial up the elegance and contrast with the monochrome red. But, even though it wasn't her most sophisticated aesthetic ever, we still appreciate that the 14-time Grammy winner had fun with fashion and chose something that gave her the freedom to dance the night away.
