Nicole Kidman's Natural Curly Hair Is Head Turning
Nicole Kidman has had quite the hair transformation during her decades in the spotlight. Though she's rarely strayed from her stunning, signature red (while sometimes swapping between deep gingers and strawberry blondes), she's tried several styles, including her natural curls. She's even proudly worn the look she was born with in movies. In 1990's "Days of Thunder," appearing alongside ex-husband Tom Cruise (before Kidman's post-divorce style transformation), she wowed with super tight ringlets that had plenty of volume.
For the Australian actor, wearing her hair au naturale became more sporadic in the years that followed, as she mainly opted for straight locks or loose waves in public. But she has reprised her early look a handful of times. The actor's hairstylist, Kylee Heath, confirmed on Instagram that she didn't use a hot tool or a less-damaging heatless curl hack while getting the "A Family Affair" star ready for the Academy Museum Gala red carpet in 2021. "Curls night out[.] @nicolekidman rocking those natural curls," Heath captioned several snaps from the event. Her strands were slightly looser, more defined, and sleeker than three decades earlier, but she looked just as gorgeous.
Fans were thrilled to see the A-lister with her curly locks again. After Kidman posted photos from the event on her own Instagram, one fan commented, "HAIR!!! Yay the curls were FREE!!!!" Another told the actor, "Your hair is so beautiful in its natural state." And they weren't wrong.
Nicole Kidman regretted straightening her curly hair
Though there's no denying Nicole Kidman's natural curls are head-turning, she hasn't always been the biggest fan of her natural texture. "The thing you hate about yourself tends to be the thing that everyone likes about you," she told People. "Russell [Crowe] always says, 'Nic, just wear your hair curly and leave your glasses on. That's how you look best.'"
The star admitted she spent a lot time trying to straighten her mane, only to long for her original curl pattern. "I wish I had my curls back. I tortured them to death. I always say, 'Don't ruin the ringlets!'" she told Who. The "Bombshell" star shared a similar sentiment to The Sydney Morning Herald, stating, "Do I wish that I hadn't screwed up my hair by straightening it all the time? Sure."
But, fortunately, she didn't do irreversible damage to her locks, seemingly confirming on Instagram in 2020 that she still had a lot of her original texture without the help of a hairstylist. She posted a sweet, casual photo of her cuddling up to her husband Keith Urban while enjoying some time outdoors. Kidman embraced her beautiful, messy ringlets and wore them down in a center part, proving how stunning she truly is, even without her glam team.
