Robin Kelly became the first African-American woman to serve as the Chief of Staff to an elected constitutional statewide officeholder while working for Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias. Prior to her election to Congress, she was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives and served as Chief Administrative Officer of the second largest county in the United States.
