5 Tips for Starting (and Sticking to) a Fitness Routine

Our best tips for sticking to your fitness routine!
When it comes to starting a new fitness routine, or sticking to an existing one, there are a few things that can make all the difference.
For example, having a clear goal in mind can help to keep you motivated. Breaking up your workouts into manageable chunks can also make them feel less daunting, and setting regular reminders can help to keep you on track.
But above all, the most important thing is to just get started. So with that in mind, here are five tips to help you get started with a new fitness routine - and stick to it in the long run.
1. Set a Clear Goal
Before you even start thinking about working out, it's important to have a clear goal in mind. What are you hoping to achieve by exercising? Are you looking to lose weight, build muscle, or simply improve your overall health?
Once you have a goal in mind, it will be much easier to stay motivated and on track. Make sure to write down your goal, and put it somewhere you'll see it every day - such as on your fridge or bathroom mirror.
2. Find an Activity You Enjoy
If you want to stick to a fitness routine, it's important to find an activity that you actually enjoy doing. There's no point in forcing yourself to do something that you hate - you're far more likely to give up if it feels like a chore.
So take some time to experiment with different activities until you find one (or several) that you really enjoy. If possible, try to find something that's also conveniently located near your home or workplace.
3. Start Small
If you're just starting out, it's important to take things slowly at first. There's no need to try and do too much too soon - you can gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts as you get more used to them.
Starting small will also help to prevent injuries, which can often be a major setback when it comes to maintaining a fitness routine.
4. Set Regular Reminders
One of the most common reasons why people give up on their fitness routines is because they simply forget to do them. If you're prone to forgetting, set regular reminders for yourself - either with an alarm on your phone, or by writing it down in your diary.
It can also be helpful to schedule your workouts for a specific time of day, so that they become part of your regular routine. If you know you're going to work out at 6pm every evening, it will be much easier to stick to it.
5. Reward Yourself
Finally, remember to give yourself a pat on the back every now and then - especially if you've managed to stick to your fitness routine for a significant period of time.
You could treat yourself to a new piece of workout gear, or allow yourself to have a cheat meal every once in awhile. Whatever it is, make sure it's something that you'll actually enjoy - otherwise you'll just end up feeling deprived.
Following these tips should help you to get started with a new fitness routine - and stick to it in the long run. Just remember to be patient, and don't expect miracles overnight. With a little bit of persistence, you'll be sure to achieve your goals in no time.
