Dog Swims Over 6 Miles To Reunite With His Family
Man's best friendship is forever.
Edward Casas was out boating with his wife and their 10-month-old puppy Rylee on a sunny Sunday when they encountered a mechanical problem. The couple went below the deck to figure out the problem.
The couple believes that while they were below the deck, the Belgian Malinois fell out of the boat. They returned above the deck, and she was nowhere to be found.
"Our hearts just sank," said Edward Casas to ABC News "We were gone for maybe 10 minutes, and then we couldn't find her anywhere on the boat and she was nowhere to be seen in the water."
They recruited local fisherman to look for the dog, and a volunteer group Lost Dog Search Team worked to find where the dog had gone.
Rylee had been going through emergency rescue training, so the couple was sure the pup would "find her way back to shore."
From there the volunteer team took to searching the woods and camp grounds. The couple began bringing Rylee's favorite toys to the woods, squeaking and looking for the lost pup. Then suddenly, the doggy emerged from the woods and joyfully greeted them.
Rylee swam over 6 miles and trekked over 12 miles on foot to find her family's campground.
This story of triumph is taking the internet by storm. The story of Rylee the puppy emerging after all hope was lost is stunning everyone.
Edward told ABC News there "was a lot of sobbing and a lot of hugging."
"Let me tell you, I'm not the kind of guy that cries but oh did this make me cry," he said. "I am so proud of this dog..."
Way to go, Rylee!
